Car seat...if you are NOT using a Travel System
Sooo the DH does not trust infant carriers in the travel system. He does not like that 1) it will continued to be snapped in and out of a stroller and in and out of the car base and 2) looks unsafe even when carrying it. So he thinks that its safe to just have a stationary car seat that is not moved in and out and a great stroller. So i just want to know if you are also not usung an infant carrier...which car seat are you using or maybe have used for a child already. We are looking at Britx because i believe they are to be the best... any thooughts???

Re: Car seat...if you are NOT using a Travel System
I can totally see where your husband is coming from on this matter and I would post this on parenting to see if other moms used the convertible right off the bat - but I think the recent recommendations are that the infant seat is safer for a new baby over the convertibles (which can accommodate their weight but don't recline as much etc, and the straps can be too high to safely hold a newborn).
Here is a link to the consumer reports article.

Etd to add I didn't have a travel system only an infant car seat and a snap n go.

this is a great link!!
to the OP: if you still decide not to go with an infant carrier, i would definitely go with a Britax - from what i have seen in the stores and on baby bargains, they are the best. just make sure the one you register for/buy isn't too big for your car (i am pretty sure the Marathon is the largest one, but they make them in all different sizes).

We are using an infant car seat. If we weren't we would definitely get a Britax. Actually, we registered for the Marathon convertible car seat for when little boy outgrows the infant car seat. The Marathon was highly rated in Baby Bargains. Just be aware that it's big.

ETA: I had a travel system. Everyone told me they were the best, the easiest, etc. I hated it & began to use the Britax very early. For this one I will get another Britax & not even use my travel system.

we're getting peg perego. we also originally registered for britax for the toddler level, but then I took it off because I thought there might be better models made before we need it.

Re: Car seat...if you are NOT using a Travel System
We're getting the Britax Marathon, but we also plan to use an infant car seat. I read either in Consumer Reports or Baby Bargains that the convertible car seat really isn't recommended for young infants. I can't remember why though.
A benefit of having an infant car seat is you don't have to wake the baby up every time you get out of the car. We're not getting a travel system, but we're getting the Graco Snugride and Graco stroller frame. I never really tried out the travel systems, but the car seat fit very easily into the stroller frame and seemed secure. Do you have Baby Bargains? I'd read up on what covertible car seats they recommend for infants.

Re: Car seat...if you are NOT using a Travel System
we're using an infant seat, but we also got a maxi cosi priori.
we picked it becuase it's 1) not huge (I've heard some carseats are enormous... such as some britax models), 2) it has very good safety and consumer reviews, and 3) it's pretty stylish.....

Re: Car seat...if you are NOT using a Travel System
D~ I personally never liked the travel systems. We are going for the Bob stroller, graco snug rider car seat and the adapter. We are both active and outgoing people so this stroller suits our lives style.

I am a HUGE fan of the Maxi Cosi Car Seats, they are one of (if not the) best selling car seats in Europe with very high safety ratings, I have had 4 car seats (2 Prioris (My husband drove one of them into a river) and a Tobi, and a Cabrio infant carrier...LOVE THEM!!! (just thought I would share)

Re: Car seat...if you are NOT using a Travel System
I had the infant seat but DD is way past it. We have the Britax Roundabout and we LOVE it.
Plus my friend was in a very serious car crash(their SUV was hit so hard it flipped over, her DH and she had serious injuries) but tothe boys were in the Roundabouts and they were just fine.

ITA. An infant carrier I have heard at Expo's, etc is much safer for an infant then the convertibles.
For Baby #2 we are just keeping the infant car seat in the car and putting the baby in the double stroller without a carrier.
That can be done too. Just buy a base and an infant car seat.
