car trip help!!!!

So, we are heading on a 6 hour car trip with DD who is 9 months old.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to give her as far as toys for the car ride. She is still in the infant carrier.

My sister will be in back to "play" with her.

I purchased a booster seat for her to eat in, and have already fed her in it once here in the house.

We will be gone for 3 days, so of course, bringing enough food and clothing is on the top of my list.

This will be her first big car trip and I am nervous she is going to sleep the whole trip there.

Any advice welcome!!!

why are you nervous that she'll sleep the whole way there? that would be a DREAM!!!!!!

bring plenty of cd's to occupy her ears....

you can get one of those toy bar things that goes across the infant seat (em always LOVED that).

plenty of toys, books, anything to keep her hands & mind occupied...

Re: car trip help!!!!

I'm wondering about this too. We are driving down to NC (10 hrs Chat Icon ) with a 9 month old as well.

We are toying with the idea of leaving around 9pm and driving through so the boy can sleep on the way there, but the way back we can't do that. I'm a little worried too about him sleeping the whole way only b/c then what will he be like that night?!! He usually sleeps really well in the car (esp highway driving) so I don't want him getting his days and nights mixed up again.

Re: car trip help!!!!

We did this at the beginning of the month & DS was 8 months old. We left at night, this way we knew that he would sleep the entire time. I am not sure it would have worked during the daylight hours bc he gets very antsy after 1 hour in the car.

I would bring all her favorites toys to keep her occupied in the backseat along with any books she likes. You want her to feel the most "comfortable" she can without realizing she is in a seat for that long

thanks! leaving at night isnt an option. we wont have a hotel room to stay in and i dont know if DH or I would be able to stay awake!

plus, coming back we wouldnt have that option, so i would be worried about the day vs night aspect.

thanks again ladies!

Re: car trip help!!!!

As a PP mentioned, I would bring any of DC's favorite toys. My DD is 8 months and we just went on a 6 hr. ride last month. We brough- books, her FP cell phone, hand puppets, a few plastic chewy toys (keys, rings, etc). We also drove during the day and DD didn't sleep too much, just 1 nice long nap. We stopped on schedule to feed her (both bottle and solids). And, let her stretch. Music is also good in the car- we love the glee soundtracks Chat Icon Also, good idea to sit in the back. That's what I do on anythign over an hour ride and it's so much better. Good luck & have fun!!
