Carbs are bad... a scientific explanation *has a big picture
I don't really post too much anymore about it but I am getting back into not eating processed foods again. I try to not eat the simple carbs, no cereals, no bread, no pasta. You stop eating it, you don't want it anymore. Anyway, i saw this & thought some of you might like it.
I do not do Atkins nor am i really a proponent of it. I just don't eat processed foods so it eliminates a lot of the carbs that this poster is talking about. i eat a lot of meat (including grass fed beef & uncured bacon), fruits, veggies, nuts and I do eat potatoes.

From my own personal perspective. I went vegan years ago and gave up so many fatty foods. My diet consists mostly of carbs and I immediately lost weight and am in the best shape and health I have ever been in. Your body needs carbs. A lot of fruits are high in carbs. IMO eating a lot of meat and limiting carbs may make you lose weight quicker but it's doing so much more damage to your body in the long run. Just my two cents

Agree on all counts. I also am a trainer and workout fanatic. I am able to get/stay toned even without the meats.
I do eat "good" carbs though. As a vegan most processed foods are out anyway and I eat mostly raw foods.

Re: Carbs are bad... a scientific explanation *has a big picture
I prove this every day
the less carbs I eat- the less insulin I have to take as a diabetic
yet- most diabetes "experts" recommend a diet fairly high in carbs
I only eat carbs before working out or if my blood sugar is too low after working out
I am losing weight finally and I feel so much better

Re: Carbs are bad... a scientific explanation *has a big picture
Also to add... there are tons of scientific papers linking high carb diets to cancer, insulin accelerating tumor growth, glucose and grains causing inflammation and many diseases (including cancer). I am not a fan of Atkins either, but i think the diagram does a great job of explaining the reasoning behind it. IMO low-carb paleo diet seems to be healthiest. As an long distance runner, it is very very hard to stick to this. But i want to live a long life and I have 30 years of damage to try to repair. I am not even talking about weight here, I am talking about inflammatory reactions that occur when we eat sugars. Google it.

I eat tons of carbs and maintain a healthy weight and nice, toned muscles.
Whole, unprocessed carbs are fine.
You can eat potatoes and bananas and lose weight. I think this anti-carb thing is a bit ridiculous. Fruit has so many vital nutrients.
Its really just calories. Its been proven time and again.

This as well as a lack of movement.
Also, there is also tons of scientific research about the damange from meats. Especially now that they are pumped full of hormones.

Re: Carbs are bad... a scientific explanation *has a big picture
If you read what I wrote... I only eat grass fed organic meat. I eat fruits and veggies (a lot). I said some may find the poster interesting because most people are so focused on fat being the enemy while they eat these empty carbs... I would say in general most American’s diets are consisting of mainly processed foods and this is why they're fat. I do not think giving up fruits and veggies is a good thing at all.
I see so many people ‘failing’ in their diets because they’re complaining they’re hungry while they’re eating all packaged ‘diet’ foods. You’re right about calories, what I am saying is when you eat the diet packaged foods I think you wind up overall eating more calories or failing because you’re hungy.
Its just another point of view, if you’re successful on your current eating plan then stick with it, whatever that may be, because it works for you! But if you don’t have something that works for you and you’re looking to feel healthier and get away from chemicals, then this information may help you.
There is a lot of info out there, there is a lot of research that is contradictory, but the 'proof' that I see is that American’s are more obese than ever and eating more processed foods than ever.
There is no ONE right thing that will work for everyone and NO EXTREME DIET WILL WORK, and by that i mean no 'diet' that preaches NO FAT! Or NO CARBS! Or ONLY WATER AND CHEESE! or whatever fad is in favor, but i think everyone can agree trying to cut processed chemicals packaged as food out of their diet is probably a good idea

Re: Carbs are bad... a scientific explanation *has a big picture
Completely understand what you meant by your post. Sadly, lots of people fail to understand that Veggies and Fruits ARE carbs. The carbs that you were referring to were highly processed/refined carbs and yes, I agree that those are definitely ones to stay away from.
Both meats---(or protein in general if you are a veggie/vegan) are completely necessary as are carbs and healthy fats for a healthy body. Fat doesn'tmake you fat---carbs don't make you fat- Eating an imbalanced diet and a surplus of calories and lacking movement make you fat. In my humble opinion

Re: Carbs are bad... a scientific explanation *has a big picture
I try to eat vegan/vegetarian most meals and limit carbs to whole/unprocessed grains, fruit and beans.
I totally agree with your post and get that you are not advocating giving up all carbs. Processed carbs are junky, but then most, if not all processed foods are not the greatest for you. I am wary of any diet that is too meat heavy, since it puts so much strain on your liver, etc.
I think a mostly vegan diet with limited refined/ white carbs has been the best for me. I eat meat a few times a week and I eat white bread if it is really, really good bread. Moderation.

B: Glowing Green Smoothie (Kimberly Snyder's) or almond milk, oatmeal and organic peanut butter smoothie. Sometimes I have a coconut milk yogurt or oatmeal
L: brown rice, black beans and half an avocado (usually)
D: some type of veggie burger (I make a few different kinds) and quinoa, salad, veggies. Fish sometimes and meat maybe one or two times a week. I try lots of different recipes for dinner.
S: blue corn chips and hummus, almonds, dark chocolate, coconut milk ice cream sandwiches, protein shake if I workout, fruit.

This!! But people get confused and think that low carb or "giving up carbs" means giving up fruits and veggies.

Re: Carbs are bad... a scientific explanation *has a big picture
I so agree with you, miss Kitty, on all accounts.
I was a vegan for 15 yrs. I recently started eating a little dairy and eggs (organic) back in t reduce the processed foods I was turning to for protein.
I was nev a carb eater, but I see a difference in my body, and my performance, just by making those changes!

This is how I eat for the most part... But I don't eat rice or chips. I replace rice with quinoa.
