Career Change

If teaching was a career change did you work at all during you student teaching? I am trying to get ideas on ways to make some money while I am student teaching. Thanks!

I worked full time during student teaching, although I don't suggest doing that unless you have to, at C.V.S. I was the beauty advisor. I had done makeup all through my first four years of college as a manager at Victoria Secret and then Ulta. I didn't want to be "in charge" anymore because it was too much work, but I wanted to stay in the same industry.

It was hard, but the hours that retail can give you work very well with teaching. I worked 3-10 most nights.

What is your job right now? Would they be able to give you part time hours? I was a paralegal and when I had to student teach I kept my job and just worked part time. It was tough because I was at school all day and then had to take the train into the city and work for another 4-5 hours, but I needed the money.

when I did my internship (stud teaching) for my first masters...I was already a working teacher, but I was lucky that I was at a NYC HS that had 11 periods!

I did my internship from 0-4 period, had lunch 5 and then went 6-11 teaching (with a prep in there) - so if you find a school with an unusual schedule it can help.

Thanks for the ideas, I have my appraisal license and real estate salesperson license so I am hoping I can do some work with those while student teaching!

I worked while I was in my program as a teacher assistant however when I did my student teaching I did not.
