Career change?
Have any of you ever thought about making a career change?
I like my job, it is ok. However, I have 0 passion for it. I don't love my job - I could take it or leave it, but the $$ is good.
My DH suggested last week that maybe I should look for a new job. The truth is it doesn't matter what company I work for, it will be the same. This morning he asked why I got my MBA then. At the time I started I didn't realize this.
But honestly I am not ready to make a huge career change. I have a good job, make very good money, and work for a great company. I am complacent.
Do any of you feel like this?
If/when I change jobs I want to do something totally different. However, all of my experience & education (BS, MBA, and certificates) are in my current field.

Re: Career change?
I have been thinking about this a lot in the past couple of months. Whenever I do think about leaving, I remind myself the salary isn't bad and I have great benefits. I'm also struggling with what I would want to do if I did leave - completely unrelated to what I do now is a must

Re: Career change?
I'm going through that right now.
I'm VERY tired of HR and all the politics that go on at my company. Problem is those issues seem to exist at every company.
I'm in your boat too - all my degrees and certifications are in HR related fields.
I think I'm going to stick it out until I get pregnant, then try to get into teaching.

Re: Career change?
DH just made a big career change. He'd been in restaurant management for about 15 years...made good$$, but everything else stunk.
He is now selling high end luxury cars, and let me tell you the change in him has been amazing. He is like a new person, I swear. It is very important to be happy in your job, or other aspects of your life will suffer.
Good luck with your decision, I know it's hard to make such a big change.

Re: Career change?
I did.
I was working in HS education and while I liked the job, I wasn't really all that excited about it and got tired of a lot of the politics and the paperwork. I also had a lot of personal stuff going on at the time that made me really sit down and ask myself if that was what I really wanted to do. Like you, I already had a masters degree in that field and was paying back student loans on the degrees I already had.
But, right before I turned 30, I decided to change careers, went back to school at a community college to begin classes towards a 2nd bachelor degree. It took me 6 yrs to finish, since I had to do it part time some semesters in order to work and support myself (I was living on my own.) It was definitely difficult, and took a LOT of sacrifice, but probably the achievement I am proudest of, and I am now trying to finish a masters in that field as well. People I know tease me about being in school for so long, but I know many of them are envious that I was able to do it.

Re: Career change?
Me.
I make good $$...but I work from home, which is very boring and lonely.
I am thinking about going back to school to do something totally different, so that when we do start a family, I can eithr not work, or work part-time in the new career I am looking into.

Re: Career change?
I am in the same boat right now. I hate my job and would leave in a second but... the $$ is good and we have a morgage to pay. I don't have a degree & I have no idea what I want to do. I could look for another job but I don't want to do the samething. The way I feel about the environment I work in def effects my personal life. My family keeps asking when am I going to make change. I think fear has a lot do to with it.

Wow, seems we are in the same boat! I will have my Masters in HR next month and I hate it! I would love to get into teaching! The biggest thing holding me back from a career change is school. I just don't know if I have it in me to go through school all over again. I am so tired of it!

Re: Career change?
Thanks ladies. I didn't think I was the only one. I think I am going to look into furthering some of my hobbies and who knows what will happen in the future.
Anyone want to underwrite me going into business for myself? LOL

Re: Career change?
Yes, I am in the process of doing this now from HR to teaching. It is a significant pay cut in the beginning but I am determined to make it work. It's pretty scary but exciting!
