career change
Hi ladies-
I posted on the families board about becoming a librarian and I also read on here that there isn't a lot if jobs to come by these days.
I have a master's in reading and a bachelors in teaching general and special education.
Does anyone have any experience changing careers? And if so what did you change your major to?
Tia!

career change
Pretty much in the same boat. Got my masters in Elementary Ed 6 years ago. I've subbed since. My BA is in English.
I'm hesitant to pour more money into my education when I'm still paying off my masters. I have employee training experience so I'm trying to go the HR or higher education or employee training route. But I've been looking for a good year and haven't had any success.
I would start by meeting with a career counselor at your alma mater (I met with them at both my graduate and undergraduate universities).

Re: career change
I'm all for promoting the skills you already have vs. spending more $$$ on a degree for a field you are unsure of.
Working in a teaching institution, I often see people on their 2nd and sometimes THIRD degree and I can't get over the $$$$ factor.
My dumb mistake in life was going to a private university for a professional degree in social work.
I'll be paying that baby off for the rest of my life, and in turn, this affects our ability to save for DS school loans.....

Re: career change
Thanks so much for the feedback!
I actually started a masters in Lib. Science about 4-5 years ago and was in about a year and a half. I wanted to go back and just finish it, but the issue is that the school I was attending lost its accredidation as well. So, now I am left wondering if I should just finish it bc I started it. I stopped taking classes bc I had my son. Now I have 2 kids. LOL
Just feeling like I don't know what to do with what I have since it's specific to teaching and there are no jobs around where I live for that? Maybe I will see about tutoring or something like that. With two small kids, I wasn't looking to get into anything full-time right now anyway.
Thanks again and good luck!

Re: career change
Yeah it sounds like you should wait since you are unsure anyway.
Completing school is definitely not easy with kids.
I have a student right now with a young child and it's rough having to be in placement, write papers, go to class and do other school stuff.
She is putting her child in daycare FT next semester.
