Career women

Do you ever get jealous of men in regards to choosing between work and family? I know men also struggle with not being home with the family but for someone like me who is very career driven and wants to do very well and ALSO wants a family that I will have time to care for, I find it really hard. I know if I was a man, I would just work to the top and not hold back, since I’d be providing for my family. But since I know I want a family one day, I don’t want to take on a job that will give me little time to care for my kids. So, I feel like I’m holding myself back and waiting until after I have kids to really go to the top. Again, I know men also struggle between job and family time, but I sometimes think it’s easier for them because society expects them to be working.

Bottom line is I have to work because I make more, but I also want to be a good mother one day. It such a struggle, not sure how I’ll do it.

Re: Career women

I'm in the same boat. I am very career driven. I'm very young (24) and make very good money for only being out of college for 2 years. I don't want to stop. I absolutely love working. I really want to have kids, really really badly. And I know this probably will all change when we actually do have kids, but right now I feel like I don't want to take much time off when the time comes. I think I can be a good mom while maintaining my career. And I do make a lot more than DH so I really worry that I won't be able to take that much time off because of financial reasons. I don't know; my mind is all over the place on this subject. I want to be with my kids, but I want to keep moving forward. And it's not a matter fo what's more important to me, because clearly my kids would be of the utmost importance. But my career has really shaped who I am; it's what makes me who I am. K, I'm stopping bc I think I'm just rambling now.

Re: Career women

Honestly I NEVER held back for what could/would happen later in life. I have made plans for myself for different scenarios.

For example, I wanted kids all my life but only gave birth this summer. I would have put my life/career on hold for over 10 years. Chat Icon
