Carpet steamer?
I have this "disgusting" carpet in my LR but not quite ready to change it yet.
How do I clean it? It's really dirty.
Is a home carpet steamer any good and is it worse it vs hiring someone to do it?
Also, is steam the best way to do it?
Final Q: How long does it take to dry?

Re: Carpet steamer?
I would have it professionally cleaned first. I own a Bissell carpet cleaner and it's great for maintaining clean carpets but it's just not strong enough to get down into the padding.
When you have it cleaning professionally (I used Stanley Steamer) it only takes about 2 hrs for it to be completely dry. They bring in fans to help dry it. You can walk on it with socks about 20 minutes after they leave.
