cart envy....what gives it to you?

I was in Whole Foods the other day and the person in front of me on line and the person to the left of me on line BOTH had whole fresh artichokes in their carts.

I was SO jealous! I am so intimidated by them!! I was imagining them skillfully dealing with the stems and such while stuffing them or roastng them or whatever. i just don't have the balls to buy one!

what about you? what gives you cart envy?

Fresh fish....I love it, I have tried to make it but for me it either tastes dried out or not cooked enough....

You should try artichokes...they are pretty easy to steam in some water with olive oil and garlic...

When I see someone who has a cart full of baking goods. Not boxed cake mix and canned frosting...the real deal: flour, cake flour (especially! Chat Icon), nuts, powdered sugar, high-quality chocolate chips...I love to bake and I'm actually pretty good at it, but DH doesn't like sweets much and if I keep stuff like that in the house, I will eat all of it. It's only him and I.

My family loves that stuff but lives OOS...his family doesn't like those kinds of desserts; they're Bengali and prefer Indian sweets, which I, for the most part, don't like very much.

So...I have no one to bake for but myself. Chat Icon And then I'll eat it all.

Oh, what I would do to spend an entire weekend baking!

Does "baking" count? I don't like to measure.

I've always wanted to get a crown rib roast but so afraid it won't cook well and I'll waste $75 on a piece of meat...and just the whole $75 is scary.

Yes totally intimidated by the crown rib roast and also some type of fish!!!

I make artichokes on holidays ONLY because I hate stuffing them but I do love eating them though...

really easy to make Jess!!

Honestly fresh beef. We can't afford beef so we don't eat it, but when I see someone with steaks or generally any sizable chuck of beef, I start to drool.

Artichokes I was always afraid of but they are super easy to make. You literally can just steam then for 40/45 minutes and make a nice sauce for dipping.

i am on the same page with artichokes!! i LOVE artichokes, but have never made the whole ones. i wouldn't even know where to start, they just look intimidating! i would also have to say seafood items like mussels, clams or scallops. i always want to make these at home but am too scared! Chat Icon

Scallops are easy - you can either bread and bake/fry. Or you can cook in pan on stove with some scampi sauce and serve over pasta.... very simple ways to start until you get comfy.

Clams we just throw on the BBQ with the lid closed for a few minutes until they ope and just eat off the grill.

I used to be intimidated by scallops too, not we grill them, pan sear them... anything. They are super easy, yummy and cook do fast!!!!

But I do wish I felt more comfy cooking more fish other than mahi mahi, tilapia and flounder... fresh fish give me cart envy.

2 things and I cook a lot. I cannot for the life of me make a decent pot roast- it always comes out dry and no flavor, even though I season it, follow recipes etc, and a springfoam pan- the sound if it intimidates me. any pointers? Chat Icon Chat Icon
