Re: Casey Anthony trial 1/2 hour n counting.
Taking the emotion out of the situation, I am amazed at all the horrible things that are being said about the jurors. Here are citizens doing their civic duty. They came to their decision based on the evidence that was presented to them.
Whether we agree to it or not, that is what they came up with. They have not been allowed to watch all of the media circus that has been going on throughout the trial. THey have only been given the evidence in court. And it was not the defense's duty to prove her innocent. THe prosecution had to prove her guilty. And with all the circumstantial evidence, it appears they did not prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.
I am bothered by all the comments about how terrible these jurors are. How stupid they are. How they need to watch their backs. I think that's just terrible.
THey did their civic duty based on the instructions they were given and as much as I think Casey was involved, I can't fault the jurors for it.

i realize i'm totally in the minority here but... i'm really glad that the jurors actually abided by the instructions and legal standard they were presented with as opposed to letting their emotions and morals guide their decisions.
these are the safeguards we have in place to avoid wrongful convictions. unfortunately it's a double-edged sword. and this is one of those cases.
As a lawyer, do you think there was enough evidence for them to have found her guilty for a lesser charge such as manslaughter or child abuse?
I get why they found her not-guilty for 1st degree murder; the evidence was just not there and there was too much doubt, even if you *thought* it was obvious or thought it was common sense that she did it. But, I can't understand how they found her not guilty for manslaughter or child abuse. She didn't report her child missing for 31 days, plus the other things seems to be enough evidence, no?
Manslaughter - I don't think was proved beyond a reasonable doubt. The defense threw so much crap in the mix and completely muddied the waters.
Child abuse - don't know, honestly. I am not familiar the elements of the charge. Not reporting Caylee missing for 31 days is shocking and disturbing, for sure, but does it meet the legal definition of "abuse" - i don't know...

Re: Casey Anthony trial 1/2 hour n counting.
people are really scary.
wishing something to happen to the jurors b/c you don't like the verdict?
they were given instructions. they were presented evidence. as sick as it makes me, watching Nancy Grace does not an expert make to be doing all this arm chair quarterbacking.
when I heard the verdict I was in shock b/c I thought it was a slam dunk (I didn't follow the trial or this thread) but as I've listened to the coverage, I can see WHERE the doubt was.
does it make me happy to know that this little girl will not get justice? no.
but the simple fact is, we don't KNOW that this woman commited MURDER. we know many other things, but NOT that as a fact.
this is just a horrible and disgusting case. but again, the jurors were doing their JOB and it seems like they had reason to have reasonable doubt.

Is anyone still watching the wesh feed? did the prosecution ever speak, or the 5 alternate jurors?

As disappointed as I am right now I do agree with this point you make. But I feel the verdict was totally wrong this time.

The State Attorney and Sheriff are speaking now. Don't think the prosecution team will speak. No words on alternates.

I listened to the judge charge the jury, and I don't think the evidence was there for manslaughter, or aggravated child abuse. The lesser included offense of child abuse, I don't know because I didn't listen to 100% of the testimony.

Again.....if you were on the jury and based on the EVIDENCE alone, and not all of OUR media influences, would you have made the same decision? You don't know. NOBODY should serve jury duty and have to fear what may happen. I don't know how it is anywhere else but here in MI you don't get to choose the trial, case, or date you have to report. These, STUPID people as some of you have said, are doing their civic duty and because the prosecution did not do THEIR job they will have to live in fear. How is that fair? It's easy to sit here and say all of this,k but we were not there every single day day in, and day out, no tv, no nothing. You don't have to like the decision, but to insult there, age, past, job, or whatever is very wrong. And for the record they were of mixed ages, and mixed as far as gender and if they had kids or not. Did it ever occure to you juror #7 may have been crying because there IS a stigma to CPS and now she found her not guilty. Not because of the wrong decision, but because she just had no evidence. This is just sick how we are all turning on the jury. I hope to GOD that it's not one of YOUR family members or friends that were on it
well said.
I agree as well.

I see your point, and it is a good one.
However, I can't believe 12 people actually agreed that she was NOT guilty on all murder charges. In this day and age, we all saw the prosecution and defense arguments. I can't imagine 12 people actually feel she is not guilty. It's baffling!
Hung jury over a juror or 2 not agreeing with the majority, fine......but ALL 12?
I'd even go out on a limb and wonder if somehow they were paid off - that's how much it's hard to justify HOW they possibly could have found her not guilty.

that tomorrow they'll go back to work....and the the "ELEVEN remaining child murders" in that county.
there are 11 other Caylee Anthony's just this year, and just in their county.

The arguments by the defense lawyers and the states' attorneys are not evidence. Not guilty means that the states' attorney did not prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt - and they didn't. They did not produce any evidence to show how Caylee died.

Based on evidence alone? Yes - I would have said guilty. 1st Degree.
That's without media influence, without commentators, without reading other's posts on this board and others, etc. Guilty.

exactly. they had evidence of a death, but NOT a MURDER.
you simply cannot convict someone of a crime that you have no proof actually happened. THAT would have been a miscarriage of justice.
I understand that most likely it was b/c she was able to hide it all for so long that decomposition removed any trace of the crime...which is a HUGE pill to swallow..
but the law is the law is the law.

May I ask why? I don't mean this snarky or unkind....I am truely curious as to what you think, evidence based, supports a guilty verdict. Maybe I have not considered it?

I don't understand how tape over the mouth doesn't show suffocation? Or even being placed in 3 garbage bags, esp if drugged?

one, b/c you breathe through your nose.
and 2, b/c she had no lungs. so trachea. no body tissue that would show evidence of a lack of oxygen/suffocation.

Yup...just shows you that you CAN get away with murder!
I think people like to just argue to argue. We all KNOW she did it. Everyone knows she did it. Something NEEDS to change with the legal system so people like this do NOT get off.
She will probably be out on Thursday because of time served! I hope her family doesn't take her back in.
