Casey wakes up at the crack of dawn..

I think I may have posted this on LIW a while ago...but, she normally wakes up and starts barking at 530am, which is ok during the week bc thats what time I am up for work. But I have been trying to break the habit and not go downstairs immediately, so instead i jump in the shower first and then go down. Now, on the weekends, she is up at the crack of dawn. My DH keeps yelling at me to go get her and I keep telling him just like a baby, we have to let her bark (aka cry) for a while.

When we visited my MIL's last week (for 7 days straight) - she did not make 1 PEEP in the mornings - not one. One day we even slept until 1030 am! In her house, we had her in a seperate room with the door closed and the blinds shut. In our house, I have her in the crate in the living room (no door).

Any advice??? I need to stop this!

Re: Casey wakes up at the crack of dawn..

is there a room where you can isolate her like you did at MIL??? What about placing a blanket over the crate if it's an open one (the way bird owners do at night)....

how old is she? it does take time, Bailey didn't start sleeping in with DH till almost a year or after. Now she'll stay in bed with him till noon if she can!!!

Re: Casey wakes up at the crack of dawn..

she might just need a while to grow out of her early morning stage - especially if she is so used to you getting up with her when she cries/barks, etc. Definitly keep it up with the blanket over the crate too. It's funny that the same rule applies to dogs as birds, but it really does make a difference! They do sell crate covers too - we got one for Golem because he was pulling the fabric through the crate and EATING the blanket! Chat Icon Chat Icon I ordered mine through Petedge.com - it's really cute and pretty durable too. We've had ours since November and Golem will sleep quietly until we get up and let him out of the crate. Stay strong! Casey will calm down eventually! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ebony used to do that, but now (he's 9, mind you) he just comes upstairs and into our room and plops on his pillow and goes back to sleep until I get up at 7:30 or 8 am.

Maybe when you can let her out of the crate and let her sleep in your room???
