Cat issue
I have a 4 1/2 yr old cat who I adore. We recently moved to a neighborhood and another cat (not sure if a stray or just an outdoor cat owned by someone in the neighborhood) keeps coming up on our patio. It is making my poor kitty so upset! She sits at the patio door and hisses at the other cat and gets so nervous, jumpy, and upset (she never usually hisses...). The other cat inches closer and closer to our patio door then starts hissing back at my cat then runs away, but comes back a few minutes later. It is happening daily now... Is there anything I can do to make this cat go away? Am I worrying too much - should I just let them be and assume they will get used to each other?
TIA!

Re: Cat issue
If it is a stray, would you want to try bringing it to a shelter?

I thought of that, but I just can't tell if it is a neighbor's cat or not. It doesn't have a tag on it, but looks really clean (it is a very long haired cat) and obviously eats well. I tried following it one day to see if it went into a house, but it ran too fast for me

Re: Cat issue
I have a similar problem with my neighbors cats, but they don't visit that often and they both run when they see me, but my two go nuts, hissing growling their tails go all bushy and they throw themsleves at the window. As it doesn't happen that often I just let my two go nuts, they calm down soon enough, but this is every day and it is bothering you & your kitty.
You could try spraying it with a water spray, if you can get there quick enough, does the cat just stay there when you walk up to the window?
Or maybe try putting some aluminum foil just outside the window on the patio, most cats don't like it and won't walk on it.
I can't think of anything else, I wish I could be of more help.
Good luck

Re: Cat issue
Maybe try putting red pepper around the patio where it comes. We have one that was doing the same thing and driving Espresso and Misty crazy. I finally started letting Misty out to chase it and it doesn't come around anymore.
ETA: If you don't live to far, I could rent you my dog!!

Thank you!! I am in NC unfortunately - but maybe I can borrow a neighbor's dog.
I'll also try the aluminum foil and red pepper - I had not heard of those before!
