cat litter
Any suggestions on a 'good' litter to use or something to add that gets rid of or masks that ammonia odor? I thought after a cat is fixed they don't have that anymore but I constantly smell it from the litter box

Re: cat litter
I swear by World's Best cat litter. I get it at K9 Caterers in Queens but I have seen it recently on sale at Pathmark and Stop n Shop. It is a clumping corn-based litter and it covers odors well. It also doesn't have that horrible clay smell.
They also have a rewards program for coupons.

WBC is a good one. So is Yesterdays News. Both are little more money then regular clay litter, but..... they are better for the environment, humans and our feline friends. Clay has a lot of dust that can be harmful to inhale.

Re: cat litter
Unfortunately, we tried Yesterday's News and one of my cats likes to take all pieces out of the box and play with the pellets - GROSS!!!
Silly cat.

World's Best is fabulous!!!
We used it - but it got too expensive, so we've switched to Arm & Hammer and it works great. Covers odors really well!

Re: cat litter
We used the crystals for awhile and they helped the smell. Then for some reason, I just went to regular Fresh Step and changed it often

Re: cat litter
we use Fresh Step as well - it covers the smell pretty well and I love using the paw points.
the other thing I've found helps (we have 5 cats so I'm always looking) is a cat box with a top with a charcoal filter. One of our boxes is the Booda and I cannot smell a thing from that box!

I used to use Arm & Hammer, then switched to Fresh Step (I think it was on sale) and just bought A&H a few weeks ago and hated it I don't know if they changed formula or if I bought a non-clumping, but what a mess cleaning up. So it's back to Fresh Step, plus they have Paw Points that accumulate so we can get free stuff.

Re: cat litter
for those who use that yesterday's news....do you use that by itself? I tried it before and actually put a layer of regular cat litter over it and never got much odor but it can start to get a little $$ buying both and changing it often.

I do use it alone. I sprinkle some baking soda in there to absorb the ammonia smell.
I change the litter 2-3 times a week. I did the same with the clay litter too. I buy a large bag of the YN and it lasts for about three weeks.

Re: cat litter
please dont use clumping litters or Fresh Step!!!!
clumping litters get caught in their paws and when they lick themselves to bathe, it clumps in their bellies.
also,Frsh Step does unethical testing on animals, please boycott them!
