cat owners how do you deal with people with cat/dog allergies coming over to your place?
We have a family member who is allergic , I also have couple of friends whose kids are allergic to cats, we are having dinner with one of them next week, they are coming over to our place. So what precautions can I take to protect (or try to ) a person from an allergic reaction ? I was thinking vacuum carpets, sofas, dust everything, wipe down everything and lock the cat in the other room for a bit. Do you think this is enough? Anything else we can do?
Any advice would be great , thank you !

That's really all you CAN do. That's what we've always done for my "aunt" who used to come over for the holidays. She still would usually get allergies anyway and have to take something. Just have benadryl or something on hand in case.

I don't really do anything out of the ordinary. They take medicine if they need, avoid touching the pets.

There's a door to the upstairs, so we have the cats go upstairs and close the door. We do massive cleaning, and that's about it. We make sure people know we have cats, so that they know to bring medicine if they need it.

I have a cousin who claimed to be allergic to our dog. I think she was full of C@*p but couldnt prove it . So DH & I would have to lock our pup down in the (finished) basement. She was fine b/c she would chill on the couch, we would leave the tv on for noise. I still felt bad though.

I do a thorough vaccuuming with the Dyson. THose with allergies know to take something before they come. Most people who are allergic to cats are allergic to an enzyme in their saliva and not the fur itself so as long as they dont touch them, they're fine. DH's Uncle is highly allergic so he takes a pill and wears a mask. I would typically keep the cats in the bedroom but since Sushi and Miso dont get along, Sushi will be in the bedroom and Miso will just be where he wants to be.

Me too. If I'm going somewhere and I know they have a cat I make it my responsibility to take a pill. I would never expect anyone to do extra work (although I would be beyond grateful that they did!) I always appreciate it when my friend-owning cats remind me beforehand to take my allergy pills before I come over! Sometimes I forget they even have cats!

This for me too :) I appreciate when people vacuum and clean before company but I always make sure to take claritin before heading over. I live with a cat and as long as I don't sit where he's been or touch him, I'm ok.

I do a thorough vacuuming and let my air purifier run continuously.
