catholic school tuition

do they all run about the same price?
I have been doing some research (not crazy about the public schools nearby unfortunately and want to use moving as a last resort!) and only some offer the tuition for their schools online!

In particular St Joseph's of Garden City! Anyone happen to know the cost of this school!?

thanks

For a Catholic school in Queens, we pay $4100 a year for full time pre-k Mon-Fri 8:20-2:10.

It's Catholic School week this week and all schools are having an open house this Sunday I believe. Good time to check them all out. Good Luck!

Re: catholic school tuition

There are some that run about the same price but then there are some that are far more expensive. When we were looking I found most ran between $4,000-5,500. Some went above $6,000. The one thing to be careful of is in parish and non parish rates. Some schools charge extra if you do not belong to their parish. We picked St. Edwards which only asks that you belong to a parish in the diocese of Rockville Centre in order to get the in parish tuition rates. So we donate to our church and get the discount.

Another thing to be very mindful of is "required" fundraisers. Some schools will add on at least $500-1,000 in fundraisers that you have to contribute to. You have to find out that cost ahead of time and factor it in.

The last suggestion I would give you is to pick a school that is still in a good school district. The school district will provide additional support and services to the catholic school. So you want to make sure you pick a solid district that will have the money and resources. Good luck in your search and feel free to FM me with any questions.

Agreed about the fundraisers. I didn't realize and they add about another $500-1k to the tuition.

Re: catholic school tuition

thanks everyone!

Another question...can you join a parish that is not necessarily your parish geographically! There is a bunch under 5 mi from our house and was looking to switch from the one I belong to now...if I join and start going there now..in 2 years will I be considered a "parish member" and not have to pay the non-parish fees when my DD would start to go there?

it depends.... some parishes do not let you "join" if you're outside the parish lines. some parishes are so large that they begun overburdened and do not have the clergy needed for that many people and so they have to limit it to those that actually live within the parish boundaries. however, most parishes do let you join. you are only considered a member of the parish if you are registered --- meaning they have your name, family info. on file. parish members are expected to contribute to the parish financially through the envelopes when they attend Mass.

That is why I want to get this squared away now (my DD is 2.5 yrs) so I can start attending mass at the church/school where I want to have my children attend!
