Cats and Christmas Trees...
I know they like to run up on christmas trees. My friend's cat used to climb up it and hide inside. That's why we are not putting up a big one. We have a small one that's about 4 feet tall and we put it on a little table.
What do you guys think? There is not much room for him to climb on and go inside. He'll still attempt it though but hopefully he'll realize it's useless and give up on it...

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
My cat is pretty good and so is my dog. But just as a precaution, we tie it to the wall...since we have a tall tree.

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
We had a real tree last year, and we were worrried that we would find the cats IN the tree. It actually worked out fine- no climbing or eating the lights. The only bad thing they did was drink from the water bowl.

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
Our Ralphie would attempt to do something with the tree. We are going to put up this small one and see what happens. It's a fake tree.
DH and I have decided not to put up anymore big trees anymore because our apartment is too small and it takes up too much space. Not to mention real trees are messy. Everytime I sweep I still find the pine needles and the last time we had a real tree was two years ago! It annoys me! Of course there will other christmas decorations around the apartment, I love x-mas decorating...

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
My guys are declawed, so they don't climb up it, but they do love sleeping under it and playing with the bell ornaments I have - I guess they like the sound.
We had a fake tree last year, but we feel safe getting a real one this year Image Attachment(s):

I can't take any chances with this little monster...LOL
We don't know what he's gonna do next. DH's old cat Lucy(Rest in Peace) used to go under the tree and sleep.

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
My 2 cats never bothered with climbing it or anything....but they did like to swat at the tinsel and decorations.....I tried to tell my DH that the tinsel is no good for pets and he wouldn't listen. So we tried to put it up higher and not so much at the bottom.

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
My cat has never tried to climb up our tree. He chews on the fake branches at the bottom and swats the lower ornaments off and sleeps under it, but he is good with never climbing it.
ETA - We had an issue 2 years ago with the tinsel and got rid of it when it was hanging out of our cat's butt. Apparently they don't digest it. GROSS

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
Our cat didn't seem to have an interest in climbing the tree. She likes to sleep under it though.
And yeah, don't use tinsel. Besides being gross when you find it coming out the butt, it can also be dangerous to them.

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
I hate tinsel on trees period. Always have always will.
We are keeping our fingers crossed that our tree survives. Like I said it's about 4ft and it will be on a stand.

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
We've had Gunnar for 15 years and each and every year, there was a live tree in the house. He never tried to climb it...he just likes to sleep underneath it.
Last year, we had our kitten for the first year and she would steal ornaments and play with them. We found them all over the place for months afterwards

Re: Cats and Christmas Trees...
I am doing lots of praying as well that our Ralphie leaves the tree alone and doesn't attemp to jump on the stand of where our little tree will be.
The other night I said to him "your'e going to be a good and leave the tree alone right"? LOL LOL LOL He was looking at me as I was talking to him. Then I was like "don't make me kick your a**"...LOL LOL LOL LOL
