Cats and Coronaviruses

There have been posts about cats getting COVID 19 from humans going around.

I’m not sure about dogs, sorry. I believe it is like Parvo.

About 90% of cats have FCoV. All of my 3 cats have it. It’s not COVID. They have had it for years. I had them checked out after my kitten died from FIP (FIP is the mutation from Feline Coronavirus). You can see it from blood tests and stool samples.

Do not give up your pets. There needs to be more research into this area.

But there are tigers and lions at the Bronx Zoo that have COVID 19 and got it from a human trainer. That is what the posts are about I’m sure. It’s 100%confirmed and true. Not fake news.

Not saying it’s fake news at all. But there are 10% of cats that do not have FCoV, and they haven’t researched that bit at all. They (researchers) have been looking into Corona in cats for over 10 years. Oddly enough, Susan Gingrich (who I am friends with) has been leading the case with FIP and Neil Pederson.

My point is that they just don’t know.

Don’t give up your animals.

Yes, that’s just it.The cases have been humans transferring to animals. That’s basically it. There isn’t enough research. They don’t know if those 10% of cats have had FCoV.

And I’m not giving up my cats. They are all I have now.

I’m more worried about us giving it to our cat. We’re making sure he doesn’t go near anything we bring in from outside...and washing our hands before touching him. We don’t have kids, my boy is my whole world lol

Ok, if animals can get it what is the big deal? Is your animal going out socializing? My pets aren't seeing anyone that I'm not (which is no one as of late) so why in God's name would I get rid of them??? Am I missing something here? This makes zero sense to me.

I think the misguided thought is you can catch it from your animal.
Which I don't think is true but who knows.
Either way I really don't give a shit.
Next thing you know people will be getting rid of their kids because, you know, they could be carriers.

Yes, this was my next thought! All these parents I hear about on the fb moms groups with packs of wild teenagers roaming about should really get rid of their teens.
