Cats home alone...
Yesterday I felt absolutely horrible for my cats. I left for work at 6:20 and didn't get home until almost midnight. I left them dry food and water (they had wet food for breakfast. I fed them more wet food when I got home, but one of them (I have 4) seemed especially clingy last night and it made me feel terrible.
So I don't know if I read it on here somewhere or somewhere online, but is it true that cats really have no concept of time?

I doubt they have a concept of time. They have routines they get used to but I don't think they are distraught if the routine changes from time to time.

Re: Cats home alone...
my kitty gets clingy too when i'm out for a long day. i feel awful, but she was a rescue and could be living a terrible life out in the cold and instead she's indoors with food and clean water. and she's a princess who sleeps in our bed with us...
as much guilt as i have sometimes, she overall has a good life and i'm sure your kitties do too!

Re: Cats home alone...
I don't think they really care much. We would leave our cat for the weekend and he didn't act any different when we got home. I think it all depends on the cat, though...ours is almost indifferent to people except for a few hours a week.

I think it depends. I believe they have a concept of time...sort of. I know that everyday Daisy waits on the kitchen table for me to get home. Both our animals are home alone for 12-14hrs 3-4 times a week while we're at work. They require cuddle time when we get home. After my shower we lay on the ocuch together and snuggle. As long as they get an hour of cuddle time they're fine, but if not the clingyness is beyond crazy! As long as they have food, water, a nd a place to go to the bathroom they're fine.
