cat's nails

How often do you get your cat's nails clipped? We just had Stubby at the vet's in December and they are SOO LONG like its scary because she catches on everything. And she is licking them constantly - i have scratching posts which she uses all the time.

Also i have tried for a week to clean out her ears and she mauls me if i go near her with a Q-tip and she has all ickies in their - what do you do?

I have never once cleaned my cat's earsChat Icon As far as her nails...we try to do them once a month but in all honesty we should do it more frequently and tend to do it LESS frequently because she hates it. She cries and screams as if we are skinning her aliveChat Icon

Re: cat's nails

I think we do once a month, and just the front paws. He takes care of the back paws himself.

Re: cat's nails

We clip our cats' nails about every three to four weeks. We have never had to clean their ears. They clean them themselves.

Re: cat's nails

We clip our cats nails every other week.
We have been doing this since we got them at 9 weeks old and they are very used to it now.
I hold the cats and my hubby does the clipping.

Depending on the tempermant of the cat you might be able to do it yourself.

Their nails grow SO fast!

I do Chloe's nails about every couple of weeks and do it by myself. I have been doing it since she was a baby ...she is good until I get to the last few nails...but we get it done!

Re: cat's nails

how the hell do you guys do it? LoL
I mean Stubby will kill us! We adopted her when she was like 1 1/2-2 years old and she was a stray so she is not used to being handled. I may have to figure it out with vet or get clawed/bitten.

i clip his nails about once a month. i try to catch him when he's sleepy or napping on the couch, he doesn't put up a fight then.

In that case don't attempt it. Take her to the vet or a professional groomer.
My previous cat was like that and there was NO way we would have been able to do it. We could barely PET her without her growling.
This time around we were blessed with 2 of the calmest most mushy cats in the world. And we started them out young with nail clipping.
But hoenstly- it's all about the tempermant of the cat.
Certain cats would NOT stand for it...

I cut my boys every week. He loves it. I get out the sissors and he runs and jumps into my lap purring.

I probably don't cut enough which is why I need to do it every week - I may not cut every nail, just the ones that seem long.

He loves it so I like to do it for him.

Yes he is a freak!

have you tried wrapping her in a towel? this may help so that she doesnt scratch you while you do it. Some cats just dont like it and unfortunetly you may have to just bring her to the vet to have it done
