CD3 Test Results - Thyroid
Maybe someone here can help me a bit. Dr. B just called and told me my results were all normal except my thyroid. My THS test came back at 5.5 and he said it should be 1-2.
So that means an underactive thyroid. Now from what I know off the top of my head that doesn't seem to fit me. And reading on about the symptoms, it seems I fit the overactive thyroid symptoms more than under, I am pretty thin and always have been.
He is going to call me in meds for tomorrow so hopefully my IUI next week will have a chance to get these meds to work, and then I am going to see a specialist for further information.
However I of course just googled it and found out that an x-ray can throw it off.
What Affects the Test Reasons you may not be able to have the test or why the results may not be helpful include:
Having had a recent X-ray with iodine dye or test using radioactive materials.
Now I had an x-ray on Thursday! Then I did CD3 testing on Monday. What does this mean, can anyone shed some light???

Re: CD Test Results
It was a regular x-ray of my neck, two shots, front and side.
I got it because I started going to a chiropracter because I had some neck pain from an injury years ago.
Before he manipulated me he wanted to see my spine.
I have the film slides with me, so I don't think it was a special type.
Should I email Dr. B? Does anyone have his address they can FM me with?

Re: CD3 Test Results - Thyroid
So the way my doc explained it to me is that your level is prob considered normal by a general practioner, but for ttc they want it to be less than 2.5. He showed me the lab results and even the lab showed my level (3.2) as normal. I started taking .25 mg of synthroid in February and we got our bfp in march! The synthroid did help me lose a pound or two before our bfp and definitely gave me a bit more energy.
Good luck!! And baby dust always!

Re: CD3 Test Results - Thyroid
ETA: march was our first iui and we did 100 mg clomid...so it wasn't just the synthroid, but I do believe the synthroid helped

Congrats! I am currently took femara, tomorrow they'll tell me if I can do the IUI Tuesday.
I did ask both Dr. B and the chiropractor about the x-ray and they both said no it shouldn't make a difference. My chiropractor's wife had an underactive thyroid due to a node on the thyroid, but after pregnancy it went away and so did her underactive thyroid! So he was pretty familiar.
I have an appointment with Dr. B's BIL but it is almost a month away so I am going to try and find someone to take me sooner.
It is sooooo odd, reading symptoms into hypo and hyper I feel I have the hyper, not hypo. The only hypo I feel is probably a bit of depression but I attribute that to TTC for almost a year, plus the winter is depressing too. They ask am I tired, do I get cold and it's like who doesn't? I work 45 hours a week and I am a girl, girls are always cold!
How long do I have to be on the Synthroid for until it raises my levels, I only started yesterday. I am hoping that is enough so my first IUI isn't a bust.

Re: CD3 Test Results - Thyroid
Sort of crashing...
I had been TTC for about 6 months when I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I had ZERO symptoms other than irregular cycles which I thought was from running. It wasn't until I was on CD60 with nothing but negative tests that I got bloodwork done and found out.
My TSH was 10.75 which is quite high, so the doctors seemed surprised I had no idea. My whole life I have gotten cold easily, had dry skin and hair, been pale - no reason to think differently!
After 7 weeks of Synthroid though my TSH was down to 2.13. They keep asking if I am feeling better, but I didn't feel bad in the first place! My cycles have finally become regular again though.
Hopefully you will be very responsive to the Synthroid as well. Good luck!

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. Not only do I have no symptoms I have perfect 26-28 day periods, about 2 years ago I had a lot of blood work done. Now I wonder if my levels were normal then, or if it wasn't tested. I am trying to find a marker.
Do you have to be on Synthroid for life? Do you feel better, even if you didn't feel bad before?
I have been on it 3 days and I am not sure if it is my mind playing tricks but I feel slightly jumpy, anxious, couldn't sleep last night and sorry tmi but have had the runs for 2 days. I wonder if I am adjusting to it, or just upset/nervous that something is wrong.
Honestly the idea my CD3 testing would come back anything but perfect didn't even cross my mind! I am shocked!

Re: CD3 Test Results - Thyroid
I'm not sure if my level is at their "normal" as I haven't had any follow up blood work yet. I was told there shouldn't be side effects to the synthroid because it is a synthetic hormone that occurs naturally in our bodies. I too did not have the symptoms you are mentioning, but like I said they are using a much more stringent "normal" number because you are TTC. A regular doctor wouldn't think twice about your level most likely, which is why you have no symptoms. The doctor told me that the only thing I need to know is that later on it life I will prob need a bigger dose to keep me normal, so I assume this is something you have to do/could do forever.
Also, I had a physical at my general practioner about 6 months before we started TTC and something came back irregular with my thyroid so I had to re-test. After the second blood panel, they told me everything was fine. Now of course I wish I knew the number back then and did something about it...but hindsight is 20/20!!!
Good luck and hang in there! I think the synthroid will help!

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease which is actually an autoimmune disorder - but really all it does is cause hypothyroidism. However it does mean that I will be on Synthroid for the rest of my life and any children I have will have to be tested.
I was completely blindsided by the whole thing. I had bloodwork done for my life insurance earlier last year too and nothing came up - had we not been TTC I may not have even gone to the doctor when I did.
The first week on Synthroid feeling jumpy like that is very normal. Fortunately a friend warned me it would happen - my heart would race so badly that I couldn't sleep at night. That is totally normal but will go away after a week or two as your body adjusts.
As for whether or not I feel better, it's hard to say - I made a lot of lifestyle changes as well in hopes of getting pregnant so that could be just as much the reason why I feel better at times. It's not really a noticeable difference though. I keep hoping I'll start to lose weight and have better skin and hair though as an upside to it all!

Re: CD3 Test Results - Thyroid
I didn't have signs either. But, I had just had a m/c and I was really tired from that. My numbers were at 4.7 when i first got tested and a week later they had come down on its own to 3.5. So, I think mine was messed up from getting pregnant. I'm on Synthroid too. I was never overweight (though obsessed for life that I need to loose 5lbs). Then from depression I guess I gained 14lbs during this TTC process. Then before my last cycle I went on WW and lost the 14lbs. And then guess what? My thyroid was out of wack again after 4 years of being steady. It might have been because i was eating a lot of soy products and i was reading that soy can mess with the thyroid. But, who knows. So they upped my dosage. And then my endocrinologist said (this after that recent failed cycle where I gained back 5lbs in 2 wks) if I loose more weight I'll have to reduce your meds....what? They don't know what they are talking about. Just make sure your level is around 2 on your next cycle and you'll be fine. But, you will need to monitor this for the rest of your life.
