celebrating halloween on a different day - thoughts?

I heard on the radio that the NJ Gov. is having kids celebrate Halloween on this coming Monday instead of today.

I TOTALLY get that the area is in bad shape right now and in many cases, it's not safe to be out walking around. But even so... to me... it just wouldn't feel the same trick or treating on any day other than October 31. Chat Icon Even when I was a kid I think i'd feel this way. Maybe i'm the only one!

NJ is in very bad shape, I don't see anything wrong with doing it to keep people safe...

I think it makes sense. Most kids I would think are young enough where the date doesn't matter. It's actually getting to put on the costume and go around the neighborhood. If it's postponed a few days I'm not sure it would matter to them. And like a PP said, it's safer...

I liked the idea last year (there was talk of it bc of the snow storm) and I loooooove the idea this year. We need positive upbeat things right now

Love this idea. Honestly when people are suffering so many losses I dont think it makes any sense to go trick or treating.

I live in central NJ and its bad. When driving around you come across random tiny clusters of places that have any electricity at all. Trees and debris clutter the streets. Once it gets dark, its pitch black I wouldn't want my children walking around in it. We were let go 1.5 hrs early today from work because its dangerous to be driving with no street lights. I think it was a smart move by the Govenor. NJ's got bigger issues right now then celebrating Halloween.

Makes sense to me. I for one wasn't going to risk my kids lives to walk around and dodge weak trees, and power lines. We had candy, and went to Monster mini golf. It was a fine alternative for us. Kids don't mind unless the parents make it a big deal IMO

I think it's a good idea. Also, since Oct 31st is pretty arbitrary anyway, and none of the kids knows the actual story of Halloween, they just want to dress up and get candy. The date doesn't mean anything to them. I know a lot of kids who are more excited about organized parties for Halloween, and none of the organized parties are actually ON Halloween.

Honestly, I had many trick-or-treaters yesterday. They wiped me out of a huge bag of candy. I probably will not buy more.

I'm not a huge fan

We had so many yesterday though that I almost ran out of candy anyways.. Plus, all my Halloween decorations are coming down today, and the thanksgiving ones are going up

I was also a bit taken aback yesterday-it was my first time giving out candy, and I was shocked at how few said thank you, and how many felt it was ok to reach their hands into my basket if candy

I agree, if it's widespread and they are all changing it, great! It's kind of like Christmas, we all know Jesus wasn't born on December 25th Chat Icon
