Celebrities and breakups

Lately you hear about different starts breaking up? Even if I don't care about the star, I wouldn't want that happening to them.

How do you fee3l when the breakup is in the public eye?

Re: Celebrities and breakups

On the one hand, I do feel badly because break-ups are the pits. On the other hand, I feel worse for "regular people".

My feelings are
1) most celebs made the choice to do whatever they did to be in the public eye and have as many benefits as they do drawbacks.
2) they have the luxury of flexible schedules and lots of $$ for therapy and/or going into seclusion in Bora Bora while they get over it. 3) It seems that they have a much larger dating pool than the rest of us- how many celebs really stay single for long? I suspect that agents do a lot of setting up.

I think it is sad no matter who it is...

But i find it most shocking how judgemental people are and how quick people think they "know" these people to comment on them and assigning blame Chat Icon

I also get sad no matter who it is. But I feel a little less sympathetic when it's press-obsessed celebs who break up. Who do you love more..your SO or the spotlight? Chat Icon

but how are you making the kind of judgement?

How can you begin to know what they are really feeling to make a statement like that?
Spotlight? not getting that?
We are not walking in their shoes?

true....i agree with the celebirty aspect of it...

so i think it is somewhat harder for them than the reg person...

I mean i dont' have to see pics on magazines of my Ex smootching someone else, getting married to someone else, having kids etc etc

that is kinda hard...

BUT that is the life they chose

I mean exactly that. Press-obsessed. Pretty simple statement. When your entire relationship/courtship is lived in front of the cameras. When every little thing is "sold to" or given "exclusive rights" to major magazines...it's hard for me to sympathize. If your first date is at a major award show and you're "showing off" X person...are you really cultivating that love? Relationships are hard and shouldn't be sold to the highest bidder. But maybe I'm just weird. And I'm not judging...I'm expressing my opinion about something that to me seems pretty obvious. Like J. Lo and Ben Affleck...Nick and Jessica...Katie and Tom. If you're all over with it...are you really being fair to yourselves?

No, not walking in their shoes, but in the words of Gwinneth Paltrow "It would have been a lot easier on Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston now if they had not talked to the press about each other and everything to begin with," Paltrow said. So I'm clearly not the only one that feels this way.

The thing is that these people are in the public eye and chose to be there, they have to expect it... and the public is the reason they have all their $$

Re: Celebrities and breakups

I understand the public eye thing....
And how they are selling their lives

BUT to know ANYTHING ot even to presume to know how they are feeling about their break-up as opposed to their love of being in the public eye....

Well then, why is it that Jessica is getting all the sh!t and Nick is the good ole guy?

THEY BOTH signed up to that reality show, just like any other celeb that does it....

BUT jessica is being persecuted and being judged and made assumptions about
where as POOR POOR playboy bunny lovin nick is getting all the sympathy...?

All of it just seems pretty silly

It is very silly. But with anyone, celebrity or not... people form judgements about others, quick and sometimes incomplete, but it happensChat Icon

Oh fear not, I dislike Jess and Nick equally. And I have met Nick and he wasn't the nicest person...so my disdain goes both ways.

I feel your frustration but unfortunately it's because women who sleep around (or are presumed to Chat Icon ) are whores, men that do the same are studs. Until society changes this chauvanistic way of thought we (women) will always be unfairly labeled.

Plus I think "Papa Joe" doesn't help his daughter's cause by coming across so manipulative. Chat Icon

Re: Celebrities and breakups

I can't feel bad for those celebrities who are together, then engaged then married and divorced in a short period of time. I think too many celebrities don't take the union of marriage seriously and that's sad.

I do feel bad when I hear about celebrity couples who have been married for years that end up calling it quits. Chances are though, that those are the celebrites that did geniounely try to keep thier marriage together.

In Jess' defense...I notice how they're portraying Nick as "dating" the other chick. But Jess is "hooking up" with guys...and they get her leaving hotels, etc. They purposely want to paint her as a slut...and Nick is not sleeping alone, I'm sure but they don't seem to care. Chat Icon

Re: Celebrities and breakups

I think that what is unfortunate is that we stop viewing stars as human. Yes, they have a high profile career, but even those that truly try to stay out of the limelight with their personal lives find it more then challenging. As far as couples selling images of their private affairs (wedding, children etc.) I think they just want to have some control over what the public sees and why shouldn't they make a profit off of it just like the magazines.

Re: Celebrities and breakups

I think breakups are unfortunate in any sense but if you choose to make a living in the public eye, you should expect to be criticized or judged. that's how life is, all of us have criticize or judge someone else. human beings are not perfect.
