Re: Celexa or Citalopram

I was on Celexa to counteract the anxiety Wellbutrin gave me. The Celexa made me feel blah... not depressed blah, but more like I was numb to everything. It also made me want to eat anything that wasn't nailed down, especially sweets and carbs.

I did have a bizzare side effect too... constant yawning. It didn't make me tired, it was just an odd side effect.

I have known many people on it. Its generally tolerated very well and very effective. You may want to ask for Lexapro is your insrurance will cover it. Its the same drug, but a slightly different formulation. It works quicker and is supposed to have less sexual side effects.

But many insurances wont cover it because its not THAT different than Celexa which comes in generic.

Re: Celexa or Citalopram

I have not taken celexa but I am a psych nurse and currently have many patients taking celexa.. The above poster is right, celexa is usually handled very well. It can take 1-4 weeks to really feel the effects. there are not many side effects with celexa and if there are, they usually go away as you continue with the medication. Some of the side effects are dry mouth, nausea, increased sweating.. not as many side effects as many other drugs. of course it can have sexual side effects but they are seen more in males causeing problems with ejaculation.

If you have any questions, feel free to fm me or ask me, good luck.

I would say its usually 4-6 weeks before its fully working, so dont get discouraged if you dont feel better right away.

Re: Celexa or Citalopram

I took both (insurance covered the name brand for awhile, then switched my to the generic). It killed my sex drive. Even when I tried to have sex, I was completely numb *down there*. I switched to Lexipro and had better results.

Don't be nervous- you will feel SO much better once the meds kick in. And it's certainly not forever- I've been off my meds for almost 10 months now and I feel fine.
