Cereal in baby's bottle

Hi ladies, I am a first time mom and my DS is 10 weeks old. He is currently up to drinking 8oz and this seems to be a lot. Someone recommended that I start putting cereal in his bottle but I think he is too young. Has anyone does this or have any recommendations? Im going to call the pediatrician tomorrow but I wanted your opinions. TIA

I wouldnt. I am very by the book , only doing what my ped says (maybe bd this is my first Chat Icon ) but I think 10 weeks is too young to start cereal.

I absolutely would not even entertain this without discussing it with the pediatrician first (which from the tone of your post it sounds like it did not sit well with you either). 10 weeks is very young, and like a PP said, unless there is a medical reason is not recommended.

Re: Cereal in baby's bottle

you are going to get a lot of mixed responses on this
most of the people that will tell you to try it will FM you rather than post it since people have their own opinions

i will tell you that people have done it for ages
my pediatrician said i could try it - i did - he spit up
i wont try again for a bit

Re: Cereal in baby's bottle

My Ped's didnt seem too concerned either..they told me, the worst that will happen is she will throw it up...my DD has reflux though..we really went through the ringer with it all..
Honestly, she eats like a chow hound so at some point, you have to consider how each child is individual and some may be ready for food a little sooner...
I am off and on with the rice..she got really constipated from it...

In Aruba they encourage putting cereal in the baby bottle. My sister has been doing it for awhile now. And my niece does not have reflux.

i would never do it regardless of age b/c it is empty calories. Babies do not need that.

If you breastfed you dont add cereal to booby milk

Re: Cereal in baby's bottle

Not a popular answer but yes I started doing this at 2 1/2 mo. at the recommendation of the pediatrician.

DS was drinking an 8 oz. bottle every 2-3 hours and was far surpassing the max. amount of recommended daily formula intake. I put maybe a tsp., closer to 1/2 tsp. in his bottles from about 2 1/2 mo. on and had no problems. DS was actually getting full instead of always being hungry and it helped with the slight reflux he developed b/c he was drinking so much formula.

ETA: I would speak to your ped. about it first but honestly IMO it is not a big deal.

ds started this at 5 weeks , Only because he has acid reflux , I wouldn't recommend otherwise. he didn't eat any less, he didn't sleep through the night, seriously there was no benefit that I saw except for the reflux
