Cereal question

The ped just told me she wants DS eating cereal 3 times a day. He eats oatmeal and rice right now. I am debating on whether to give him the barley too.

What cereal do you give your DC? If you don’t give them all have to not tried all three or did he/she have a reaction?

I tried the barley on DD - she didn't care for it

I have been giving her Rice and Oatmeal cereals - but we never did 3 times a day - so I am not sure if I helped at all.

Do you feel that he should be eating it 3x a day? If not, then I would say to stick with what you are doing.

Maybe he should just be eating food 3x a day...doesn't necessarilly have to be cereal. Maybe give him cereal/fruit in the morning, veggies/fruit in the noon and cereal/veggies or fruit for dinner?

wow! 3 times a day?? why? DD only took cereal2x a day and lately, we are down to 1x a day. we do barley and oatmeal - rice constipated her too much. I havent heard of many children with reactions to barley - how come you have never tried that with him? Usually, you try all cereal before moving on to fruits and veggies??

I gave DS cereal in the bottle at least 3 times per day as of 10 weeks old, and now that he's eating from a spoon (he is 5 months) he gets it twice from a spoon and once from a bottle. Pretty much every meal because he loves it and the doctor said it was OK. We gave him oatmeal and barley for awhile and he had no reactions. We held off on rice b/c he had constipation issues, but now he gets that too.

Andrew hates Barley. I just stuck with Oatmeal and the Rice Cereal.

We did cereal three times a day with no problems and plenty of poops still so no constipation. Sometimes we still do. And Ellie gets oats and barley. I do oats with fruit and barley if it's a meat or a veg jar that I'm mixing with. We tried the rice but then I stopped using it. I prefer to eat whole grains so I figured why shouldn't I do that with her too.

not really sure why 3 times a day is so shocking to everyone?

I tried rice with my DD and she got constipated right away. We stopped rice after her only having it a few days. We moved to barley pretty quickly and she adjusted fine to it. She is 6 mos. old and has cereal 2x a day. She only started having cereal a couple of weeks ago. 3x a day sounds like a lot to me. You should take your cues from the baby and not the ped. Does your DS seem hungry?

She only eats oatmeal. The barley gave her bad gas and she hates the rice.


ETA: Ava was eating cereal 3 times a day at his age, as well.

I give all 3,I give a different one each day.
He only gets cereal at Breakfast.

We started with oatmeal and basically stuck with that. Nikolas already has constipation issues so rice is awful for him, and he hated the barley so oatmeal it is!

I used to give him cereal 2x a day, now that I'm giving him three meals a day we only do the cereal for breakfast and fruits/veggies/meats the other meals

We give oatmeal in the morning and rice at dinner.

we give Jacob oatmeal 2 times a day...he has tried rice already also and no reaction. He is going to try barley next
