Re: cerlage...
from webmd.com:
Cervical cerclage is the placement of stitches in the cervix to hold it closed. In select cases, this procedure is used to keep a weak cervix (incompetent cervix) from opening early. Sometimes, cervical cerclage prevents the cervix from opening before the 37th week of pregnancy and triggering preterm labor and delivery. If you have an incompetent cervix, your doctor may recommend cervical cerclage.
jennyal, is your doctor thinking you need this when you get PG again? if i had been thru what you have i would totally go with this recommendation. i know some women on this board have had it and i personally cannot think of any downsides to this procedure (although there are risks i think the benefits outweigh them by a lot).
lots of for you!!!

Re: cerlage...
A Coworker of mine had this procedure done and delivered a healthy baby boy 6 months ago. I would go for it, if I needed to.

OH cerClage! You forgot the C in cerclage. I know they did it to my girlfriend because she was dialating way to early and had lost a baby at 6 months due to preterm labor and an incompetant cervix. It kept her p/g till the end.

Re: cerlage...
Docs usually think that when you have a loss that late into your pregnancy its due to cervical incompetence. If they are talking about a stitch the next time around you are going to want to be seen by a perinatologist or MFM doc. They are two types of stitches they can do, one more invasive then the other. They usually place the stitch after your first trimenster and place you on bedrest until term. I wish you all the luck. I'm sorry for your loss.

Re: cerlage...
opps...i meant cerclage...thanks
that was one of the first things that the dr, mentioned so that we can get PG again...we lost our baby boy at 5 1/2 months...but the dr. will tell us when we go back for our checkup what caused the preterm labor...an infection that caused the preterm labor or b/c of the IC....i just wish somehow i went to the dr earlier that week to check me out, to avoided all this ...
i had a huge cryfest with my DH, i was blaming myself and thinking what i couldve done differently....or how can i have faith and believe that we will have a baby again...when this past 5 months i was always praying for a healthy baby and this happens....
i guess time will just east the pain somehow,,,

Re: cerlage...
i am so sorry, i cannot imagine what you are going thru right now. i know your first instinct is to blame yourself, but NOTHING you did or could have done would prevent something like this happening. we are not psychic and there is no way you could have known you were going to go into preterm labor.
if the issue is I/C then i would definitely go with cerclage. i know there are lots of success stories out there and i that you will be one of them!!

Re: cerlage...
First off I'm SO sorry. I have a friend that lost her baby at 4 months due to incompetent cervix. She got pg a few months later and had a cerclage. She now has a healthy baby boy.
Please tell yourself - this was NOT your fault. There was nothing you could have known or done differently.

Re: cerlage...
Luckily my friends doctor caught the fact that she had a small cevix. She had to get this - really no choice. For all of her other pregnancies she was told that she would have to get this. There is no contest or thought in her mind - she will do it every time. It's stressful and the procedure is uncomfortable but well worth the outcome.
It amazes her and I that her doctor even saw this so early on - none of my doctor's ever checked for this condition which makes me wonder.........
You could not have known, it's not something that you feel or anything that you could have done.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
