Certification Expiration Date
One of my initial certifications expires on Jan 31, 2014. I applied for my professional the beginning of November through Teach. It has still not been reviewed. I have called the Albany number many times and it always says they are helping other callers and to try another time. I can't get through to speak to anyone! If my certification expires before they review my professional application, do I lose my certification?

They are the worst! Does it give you the option to stay on the line and wait? I would try calling during the day or any off time of day but they're probably swamped this close to a deadline. I would just keep the phone on speaker and try to wait however long it takes.

Re: Certification Expiration Date
That's the thing! They don't even give you the option of waiting! Its a recording saying they are busy helping other people and they disconnect you!

Re: Certification Expiration Date
That is ridiculous! Maybe they only let a limited number of callers sit on hold. I would keep trying anyway.
Here's a link for a form you can fill out to contact them. Even if you don't hear back at least you would have a record of trying to contact them. Are your submission showing up as reviewed yet at least? I would think that as long as you submit everything on time they would have to accept it.

Re: Certification Expiration Date
You need to literally keep calling and stay on the line. It will keep cycling through again and again and eventually will direct you to a person - very annoying I know!
If you are at a district, you can ask your superintendent to call the state for you to expedite it.

I'm on maternity leave, but maybe I can ask my principal. Thanks!

your school has the right to terminate you immediately for an expired certification. i would immediately call the state again and apply for an extension if they can not put your professional through on time. what number are you calling? every time i have called the state i have talked to a person pretty quickly.

Re: Certification Expiration Date
I am calling (518) 474-3901. It's not the certification I am working under. I am working under my special education which doesn't expire until next year. It's my general education that is expiring.

Certification Expiration Date
I had a similar issue, but I had landed a job and they n needed my permanent cert stat! My congressman's office called on my behalf and it literally was ready the next day. I found this out from the cert office at Hofstra when they couldn't help. I am so grateful for that bit of info. *btw state assemblyman, not your national rep.

Oh good.
I just applied for 2 new certifications as well and one of them was not going through either. When I called they told me they were waiting for the college where I took the required classes to recommend me for the certification. Could that be the issue for you too?

Re: Certification Expiration Date
I had a similar issue and I expressed my concerns with a woman in personnel at my district and she called them directly. Well she called someone, either them or BOCES.

I was going to suggest BOCES. I would give them a call...they have helped me with certifications in the past and can expedite the process.

Hmm...maybe. I will have to find out. I think it's so stupid that they have to recommend you AGAIN for professional, when they recommended you for initial!
