Certified Copy of Birth Certificate - edited; TY
Has anyone done this by mail? Just curious to know what your experience was like - fast/slow, difficult/easy?
Update: Just filed online for NYC - thank you ladies!

Re: Certified Copy of Birth Certificate
I did, when I could not find mine when getting my passport for the first time. I just contacted the county I was born in, and called them, I had to send them $ and tell them why I needed a certified copy, did what they told me to do, and it came fairly quickly. HTH ( I think it came within a few weeks)

Re: Certified Copy of Birth Certificate
I've had to do this, and found it to be very fast. I was surprised, since I had to request it from Sacremento, CA. I thought it would take much longer than it did. Was a very simple process

I did it online and had a good experience. It came in a couple of weeks.
I didn't do it through the county though as other posters mentioned - I did it online and it was $65!

Re: Certified Copy of Birth Certificate
I had to do this just in August for my honeymoon. The passports were delayed so we both requested copies. I was born in Cleveland, and mine took FOREVER ! I was calling people cursing them up and down. I was not happy about it.
But he was born in Queens and it was not so bad. There was a website you can actually request is online and have a tracking number for the order and everything.
Type in NY Birth certificate into Google it should come up.

Re: Certified Copy of Birth Certificate
I'm doing it through the mail, and I filled out the form...now this is going to sound like a REALLY STUPID question...
the asked for a copy of my state-issued ID, I'm sending them a scanned copy of my drivers lic. and ss card....but I'm married now...they'll put 2 & 2 together right?
Or do i have to send my ID w/my maiden name, and a copy of my marriage certificate?

I would send a copy of everything just in case. Your maiden name, new name, marriage license etc. Uts like when you do to DMV, you bring extra stuff just in case. better safe than sorry.

I'd send a copy of your ID with your married name, ID with maiden name, and your marriage certificate. That way they have ALL the info they need. They probably don't even need any info with your married name, but just in case.
I ordered mine from NYC and it was very easy and very fast. I think I got it in the mail about a week later (definitely less than 2 weeks).
