Cesspools

Does anyone know what you're supposed to do if you have a cesspool? Are they supposed to be pumped as maintanence? I have no idea how you're supposed to handle them. We've lived in our house for 3 years, sometimes we remember to put septic treatment in the toilet, sometimes we forget. Are you supposed to have them pumped regularly?

Re: Cesspools

If you have no problem with your cesspool, you do not need to have it pumped, but it is good to put the treatment in regularly.

But no, as long as you have no issues with back-ups, leave your cesspools alone! They work all on their own. You will know if you have problems if you have trouble wiht slow drainage or back-ups.

Re: Cesspools

Thanks...

I think my drains may be moving a little slowly. My sinks are moving slow. So does that mean I should call someone?

I would try using some clog remover first. I use Zep's 10-minute hair clog remover and it usually works great. If after that, it still runs sluggist, you can call someone to look into it.

Re: Cesspools

I agree with Trish.

As maintenance...you should use Rid-X as well.

Re: Cesspools

There are some companies that will come and give a free estimate and check out how full the cesspool is.

We use RidX every month. We've been in our house 5 years and pumped last year b/c the water was draining REALLY slow and I was paranoid about it backing up into the house. Cheaper to pump some than have it back up into the house.
