changing doc
So I requested that a copy of my prenatal files be sent to another doc I want to change to Stony brrok midwives.. so they are charging me .75 a page
is this normal??

Well normal is debatable - some offices do and many don't - but they are within their rights to charge you that amount. Some places won't charge you the amount if you have them sent or requested by your new dr's office. I have never paid for my records to be sent when changing offices but by law they can charge you up to .75 cents per page.

Under HIPPAA they are entitled to up to .75 per page.

yep....they can charge up to 75 cents per page and something like $2 for other files or something.

NYS law allows doctors to charge up to 75 cents a page plus reasonable shipping costs. Most places do not charge when sending the records directly to another doctor. There may be a separate rule about that, but I don't know b/c in my work I don't deal with requests to send records to other doctors. Most places do charge the full 75 cents a page for records sent to the patient or the patient's representative. You can fight the charges if you can show financial hardship, but they can be very difficult about it.

I did request that the info be sent directly to the other doc office - they can do that once I pay the bill for the copies so I am just going to get the copies my self and then send another set of copies to the new doc
