Changing Oil Tank - Inside vs Outside
So, I have an in ground tank that isn't working so I need a new one. I received two quotes and both places recommended different options. One vendor said its better to have inside since I have the room. The other vendor said that we should put it outside of the house on a piece of concrete slab (This option is $175 more. If we add the casing it would be 1,000 extra)
I was leaning toward putting indoors since I do have the room but the outside option is now appealing to me. So, the question is...if you had a choice what would you do.
Thanks in advance for the input.

Re: Changing Oil Tank - Inside vs Outside
My parents house had it inside. All was fine, until it sprung a leak and they had 50 gallons of fuel oil all over their house. I vote for outside, as long as it's out of view and doesn't create an eyesore.

Thanks for opinions. My concern is the leakage but either way it would be an issue.

Inside. I would not worry about leakage. That rarely happens and you can SEE what is going on inside, whereas outside in the ground, you cannot see, kwim?
Mine is inside and I prefer it that way.

Re: Changing Oil Tank - Inside vs Outside
We bought our house with it inside our garage, but DH wants to put it outside so he gains back that space in the garage.
I think it is better inside away from the elements, but it would be nice to have that space back.

Thanks for ALL the input. Since my decision was going to be influenced by the responses and poll it has been decided to place the tank inside our house.

I would go above grade outside...no worries about the smell and you dont lose inside space
