Changing station and crib drawer?

I am planning on ordering my furniture soon. I am getting Stanley Youth America Cottage Treasures in Linen. I can buy a piece that goes on top of the dresser that has open compartments for the changing pad, diapers, wipes etc., but it is extra. I've seen that many other companies don't have this feature and you just use the top of the dresser as is. Do you think I need it? Will the changing pad slide around too much without it? Here's a pic with the changing station.

Also, who has a drawer under their crib? Again, it's extra. It might be nice to have the storage but Baby Bargains said that since it doesn't have a top, it can get pretty dusty. Opinions?

Re: Changing station and crib drawer?

Obviously I can't answer from experience yet, but we opted not to get the changing station on our dresser, only because it was an extra $200 and the guy at Bellini told us we didn't really need it.

I do have a drawer under the crib, and so far we just put blankets under there. The dust ruffle covers it, so so far so good.

Re: Changing station and crib drawer?

We're also getting a Young America dresser. We decided to get the changing table part b/c I would never want to risk the baby rolling off the side of the dresser. They're quick and nimble, so the more safety, the better, IMO. Also, I like that it has a separate compartment for lotion, diapers, etc. b/c I like my stuff organized.

the set is beatiful.

I would probably get the top because it seems like the baby is more secure there, and you can secure the baby with restraints.

I would get it.

Also, I have the drawer under the crib and its useful to us. Its comfy to put blankets and other stuff there.

Re: Changing station and crib drawer?

didn't get the changing part, the changing pad has high edges and snaps onto the back of the dresser, and my crib came with the drawer

I'm glad I have the changing station!!!!

As for the draw under the crib, I have blankets in it that I never use. IMO, it's a waste, especially if you have a bed skirt. It actually gets in the way of the bed skirt and can be more annoying than it's worth. The crib we're getting for our DS will not have a draw.

Re: Changing station and crib drawer?

Thanks everyone! I think we are going to get the changing station but skip the drawer. If I decide that I want the drawer I could always get it later, but I think I will feel better having the changing station from the get go.
Thanks again!

Re: Changing station and crib drawer?

I have my changing table pad attached to the dresser and I put some rubber drawer liner under it so it doesn't slip. 2 years later and I still use it this way

Re: Changing station and crib drawer?

We had no dresser top but we did get the crib drawer and used it for all the bulky blankets and extra sheets. I loved having it.

Re: Changing station and crib drawer?

My changing table doesnt have anything that holds pad. The bottom of the pad is a rubbery bottom and with the baby weight on it, it doesnt move at all
