Changing your name on the deed to your home?
Does anyone know how to go about changing the name on the deed to your home? We closed in January and it is in my maiden name and I want to change it to my married name. Figured I would try here before calling the lawyer. Thanks guys!!

Re: Changing your name on the deed to your home?
I've been married for 2 years and still have not changed my name of the deed. Our lawyer too, told us it wasn't worth it and there really is no reason to do it.

You can have a new Deed prepared with your new name. Your atty can do it. I prepared ours myself (I used to do residential RE).

DW and I bought our condo a month before we were married, so it was in her maiden name. When we sold it, she needed a copy of her marriage certificate and signed her name in a few spots as new name (fka old name) - fka means fomerly known as

Re: Changing your name on the deed to your home?
I just sold an apartment that I owned in my maiden name. On the paperwork I just had to sign in a few places that I was FKA (formally known as) my maiden name - so don't worry about changing your name.

Oh ok - thanks everyone. Was just thinking ahead to when we sell the townhouse. I didn't want to have any problems.

I will probably not bother. Plus my name is hyphenated so people can figure it out.
My lawyer said it costs about $75 to have the name changed on the document.
