Re: cheap weekend getaway
We are going to Cape May, NJ with our 9 month old. We figured we wouldn't make it a vacation about him this year since he's too young to really get so much out of a kid's park. We'll get to do that a lot in the next few years!
Cape May was pretty booked, but Wildwood Crest near Cape May, NJ is pretty inexpensive, and there are some decent family hotels there. You have beach, boardwalk, and also some neat nature trails and Victorian homes in Cape May. One of my favorite places to go.
We wanted to visit the North Fork area, but anything reasonable was booked, and everything else was $$$$.

we go every year here too and love it! DS had a great time, their's a zoo like 10 min away and an outdoor shopping center so you can stroll around with your DC. and of course the beach and boardwalk and most restaurants were very kid friendly

Re: cheap weekend getaway
We just got back from Ocean City, MD...they have the typical boardwalk, restaurants, amusement parks, etc. but it is more family oriented & much quieter than the Jersey Shore.

Re: cheap weekend getaway
We are leaving for Ocean City, Maryland later tonight and staying until Monday night. DS is only 3 months old, but, like you, we all just wanted to get away!! We booked about 3 weeks ago, and they still had plenty available. Good luck!! If you wind up there, we could have a mini GTG! hehe

Re: cheap weekend getaway
Cape May has a Welcome Center that may be able to help you (they helped me): 609-884-9562. I couldn't find anything until I called them.
If you want Wildwood Crest, Reges Oceanfront Motel had rooms left earlier this week for some weekends in September (sorry, don't have the number handy, but you can find it on tripadvisor or google). If you choose Cape May or the Wildwood area, don't stay in Wildwood itself--it's more of a raucous party scene than the Crest, though that may change in Sept.
