cheapest flooring for basement?
i really need to redo basement floors before gets here in the next 6 weeks but dh has been out of work for almost 4 months and $$$ is beyond tight. i need help finding the cheapest possible flooring option.
eta: the reason we need this done now is bc the tile in the basement is old asbestos tile and its cracking and breaking into pieces...we spend alot of time in the basement and it currently is not fit for baby to be down here

Re: cheapest flooring for basement?
They have carpet tiles (or used to)...you just buy the square footage you need, peel the backing off and stick it to the floor. We had it in our den as a kid and it held up for a long time. Also nice since you can switch the tiles out if or make a mess

Re: cheapest flooring for basement?
We have Milliken (SP?) Carpet tiles in our basement. They were not cheap but look great and "if" anything ever happened down there I can just replace some tiles rather then the whole carpet.

Re: cheapest flooring for basement?
i have a cheap but durable carpet and some cheap laminate (hardwood look) it looks amazing and it was some of the cheapest stuff on the market....take a look at what the stores have in stock..its usually cheaper than having the stores order in.

Reclaimed carpet or flooring from one of these type of places. I always see flooring, either vinyl, carpet, tile, hardwood, etc. It's hit-or-miss, since the inventory changes daily, but it's worth a shot.

Re: cheapest flooring for basement?
We bought sheet linoleum in Home Depot. DH and I installed it ourselves, it doesn't need glue, just tape down seams. We did this in our old house. Took us one day and cost about $500. Also cheap indoor outdoor carpeting...you can buy this at home depot also. I would not suggest stick tiles, they will take you forever.
