Check depositing - funds available
Say I deposited a local check from say Goldman Sachs (NYC) and I am on LI today when should it clear. Is it 2 days to clear? Like If I deposited it today would today be counted as day 1?? or is it tomorrow day 1 and available on Monday?

Re: Check depositing - funds available
With Citi if you deposit before 2 it is 1 day today tomorrow is day 2, check would clear day after. Or do what we do and become friends with your bank manager and they will clear anything when you need them to.

Re: Check depositing - funds available
citibank clears the check right away
if there is a problem with the check- then they take it back days later
it's good as long as you know the check is good- if it's questionable- don't spend the money

Re: Check depositing - funds available
Depends on the bank. We don't hold checks if you are a customer for longer then 30 days!

Only if you have the $$ in your acct then of course you could cash it right away. Or maybe with overdraft they do that too. I am telling you we've had to wait for stuiff to clear at Citi

Im not looking to cash it (not exactly) right away... I just want to know if I can write another check against the money when the funds will be cleared

What is the criteria for them to hold checks?

Re: Check depositing - funds available
I am trying to think how long it was. But they will always tell you on your receipt how long the hold will be.
Sometimes they release a little at a time

Re: Check depositing - funds available
My bank (the credit union) will make $500 available immediately. The balance takes 3 days to clear, i.e. if I deposit on a Monday evening it will be there on Thursday morning.

Yes, we have the same thing. They always give us some money right away but. Monday after 3? Is monday counted as a business day?

For Local Checks
5000.00
100.00 the next day
400.00 the next day

Local checks less then 5000.00
Next day 100.00

I have never had to wait- hence the whole craigs list scam that happened to me- they clear each check right away - maybe b/c I have so many accounts with them- but they clear them instantly

Re: Check depositing - funds available
What about... if the deposit is over $5000 but there are like 3 different checks? Does that play a roll or is each check treated as a separate thing?

I'm sure each check is cashed seperately, but goes through the same process of releasing funds.
