check writing question
Is there any way you can prevent a check from being cashed? I need to write a check out for a security deposit for a vacation home. After we use the house I want the check sent back to me, but there's no guarantee that it will be sent back. Any advice?

Re: check writing question
usually a stop payment fee is $20- thats the only way to have a check stopped.

That's what I was wondering. The final payment along with the security deposit is due. I was going to send two checks with the instructions not to cash the security deposit unless there is damage to the home after we leave. But I'm going on their "word" that they will not only not cash the security deposit check, but that they'll send it back.

Re: check writing question
once its cashed, its cashed. you would have to get them to give you the $$ back.

Re: check writing question
I know you can stop payment on a check once it is deposited I think it may be up to 90 after but it is very hard to get back that money. Your better off doing a stop payment the same day you give them the check and just pay the $20 or $30.
