childcare tax credits...
dont know much about this but is it true that if you have your child in a public childcare setting you get a 6000 dollar tax credit while if you have a one on one off the books you cant claim it? I heard all of this but I am not certain I am understanding everything...

It can be a private setting but it cannot be "off the books". You need a tax id or ss# for the person that you are paying to provide the care.
They, in turn, will need to claim the $ as income.

Re: childcare tax credits...
It's actually up to 3k for 1 child, up to 6k for two. And just so you know, you don't actually get a credit for 3k, they do some funky calculation and you get a portion of that as a credit.
I realized that if I have a babysitter come to my house, chances are they won't report it as income and then I can't get the credit so that's another reason I decided to stick with a center.
