Childhood school memories..

As a teacher I know what I say effects every child positively and even negatively at times... Has there ever been a time in elementary or HS where a teacher said something to you either Positively or negatively that has stuck with you? And u will always remember it?

I can immediatly think of negative...

10th grade math - sequential 2 - My Math teacher told us we were all a bunch of idiots and that we never should have passed grammar school.

yup...Mrs. Molina in elementary school... Chat Icon we called her TT - short for Torpedo Titties...(obviously she was large)...

anyway, during assembly one time she pulled me out of the aisle by MY EAR, because i wasn't moving fast enough apparently..Chat Icon well, i told my mom and dad, and the next morning my dad came to school with me, and in the middle of the school yard, in front of EVERYONE, he told her that if she ever laid another finger on me, he'd personally come back down and wipe the floor with her.

Re: Childhood school memories..

Oh god yes. My third grade teacher shaped my life so dramatically, it's ridiculous. When I was in 3rd grade, at my mother's urging, it was discovered that I had a learning disability. My mother made an appointment to discuss this with my then-very bitter-witch of a teacher. We all sat down to discuss, and after my mother explained to her the situation, my teacher retorted:

"Beth doesn't have a learning disability, she's just lazy and stupid"

Then, for the rest of the year, everytime I had to leave the room for my one-on-one sessions with the school educational specialist, when I returned, my teacher would make fun of me in front of the entire classroom and yell at me for falling behind in my assignments.

My entire educational life leading up to college, I always felt inferior because I was "flagged" by this devil-woman. I had so much to prove that when I got to college I worked my ARSE off, and ended up graduating from a top school, magna cum laude, so in the end, in a way, I can thank her for motivating me to prove myself to the world.

The FUNNIEST part of the story is about 3 years ago I went to a dinner reception honoring my father. I sat next to a teacher from my old school district. She asked who I remember, and I told her, honestly, I don't remember anyone except Mrs. X. She looked at me and said, let me guess, you remember her so well because she made your life miserable, right? We talked for hours - apparently I wasn't the only student she traumatized Chat Icon She ended up retiring two years ago because she has cancer. That's karma for you...

Re: Childhood school memories..

I was in third grade in a catholic school and we were NOT allowed to chew gum. Well someone ratted me out and the teacher made me put it on my nose for the rest of the day. She embarrassed me and put me on the spot. The gum hardened and it took a layer of my skin. Needless to say my mother went up and raised hell L in the holy school Chat Icon

Re: Childhood school memories..

I was pretty good at school, so I think that lead to more good memories.

My algebra teacher asked me to tutor some of the other kids in class. Then when we got our Regents back, I heard 3rd hand that he had boasted about my grade (100) to the other teachers.

My Italian & Spanish teacher (same teacher) asked me to help a few of the senior football players with their homework.

A geometry teacher (not mine) asked me into is classroom when I was in 7th grade, to do a Rubix cube in front of his class. He had tried to figure it out mathematically for months. Another teacher had seen me fixing another kid's cube during lunch.

The best compliment ever was when I was 11, a girl in my class told me she overheard her dad tell her mom that I was beautiful girl. I never thought of myself as beautiful ever.Chat Icon

In elementary school I was told by my science lab teacher that I should be a doctor or a scientist. At that time I wanted to be a tight rope walker ( I made sure I told her this when she asked meChat Icon ) Now years later I am a biology/research teacher and ex-research scientist!!
Years later I told my high school biology teacher that I wanted to teach biology and he told me don't do it!! I can understand why now!!

Re: Childhood school memories..

All I really remember was that my teachers ALWAYS told my parents during parent/teacher conferences that I never smiled-- or-- I was really bright, but I didn't smile enough. It was the same thing every year.. I guess I was just a serious kid-- but, I am the same way now.

Re: Childhood school memories..

According to my English teachers I was always a good creative writer, but in 11th grade one of my teachers raved about one of my works and asked if she could read it to the class. It was a great ego boost.
