Children's Benadryl to 12 mos old??

Can you give it to a 12 month old? I called DS dr this AM bc he has had a cold for a few days now and hasnt been sleeping well. I asked if I can give him anything other than Motrin/Tylenol.

She told me to give him 1/2 tsp of Childrens Benadryl every 6 hrs. But I looked at the box and it says not to give to children under 2???
Do you think she could have made a mistake with his age? Or should I just give it to him???

I'd call the DR back just to be sure. We have Benedryl for DD- but were told by the PED to ONLY use when she's having a food reaction.

We were also allowed to give it to her back when she was first diagnosed with an allergy to our cats because she was SO uncomfortable (to the point of not being able to sleep due to itchy nose and eyes). Even then, we were strongly cautioned to ONLY give it to her if she was really, REALLY uncomfortable.

Be aware to- Benedryl can have the opposite effect on some kids. Rather than help her sleep, sometimes it made DD wired.

1/2 dosage for 1 year old (1/2 tsp) ....

There is no infant Benadryl on the market. I have given children's benadryl to DD. My ped gave me the amount needed for her weight at my last check up.

They only have children's benedryl..but i was told the same thing..i was told only to give it if he has an allergic reaction..not fo rhis cold. I wanted to give it to my son when he had a cold so that he would sleep better..but Dr said no!
