Cholestasis?

Anyone have experience with this or know someone who has? I am getting my bile acid test results on Monday and I'm a little nervous about whether I have it and have some questions. Thanks!

Re: Cholestasis?

I had it later on in my pregnancy. My OB's had no idea what it was and I suffered for well over 6 weeks before I was sent to a dermatologist. I got a steroid cream which helped for a few days. Once I had my son, it went away.

When were you diagnosed and how early did you deliver? I am freaking out about the stillbirth risk. I will be 35 weeks on Tuesday.

Also, did you have constant itching? Mine comes and goes but is really bad at night. Thanks!

My friend had it with both her pregnancies. She delivered at about 36 weeks or so with both. She was very very itchy and she had to be hospitalized at one point, but everything turned out fine.

I was induced 3 days before my due date for high blood sugar. I wasn't diagnosed until I was at least 37 and a half weeks during a trip to L and D.

The itch was the worst at night. I didn't sleep for an entire week.

I begged my dr's to induce me early because of the itch, but they wouldn't do it. At first the dr's said I had PUPPPS. But I knew it wasn't that. It is pretty rare and some OB's don't really know too much about it. I too worried about the risk's, but my son was born totally healthy. Knowing that you are being tested for it, you are one step ahead of where I was. Usually they induce you around 38 weeks if it seems to be causing problems. But I wouldn't worry too much about it. I know that is easier said then done.

Re: Cholestasis?

I had it. I developed it late into my 37th week with my first. I had the itching for a few days before I went to the doc as I thought it was just a side effect of pregnancy. I went to my OB on monday and he ran some tests. He told me that it would take days for the results to come back. THe following afternoon he called to say that my levels were so high on one of the results that came back that he wasnt even going to wait for the other results and took me in that night to be induced! I was just 38 weeks.

DD was born perfectly healthy and the itching went away the day after she was born.

With my last pregnancy I developed the itch again on a saturday, I was going to be induced on the following monday as I was 40 weeks and three days but that sunday DS decided to arrive on his own accord.

Its very scary so if you have any questions at all please FM

Re: Cholestasis?

Thanks so much everyone. I've been having the itching for about 2-3 weeks but it's getting progressively worse. It is now 5:15 am and I am up after having slept probably 2 hours last night. I have barely slept in a week. Benadryl doesn't help unfortunately. This is torture!

My liver enzymes came back normal but I read that the bile acid test is the one that really shows whether you have it. My results will be in on Monday. I left a message for the doctor to call me today about what the plan will be if I have it. I'm hoping he'll bump my c-section date up a week to 37 weeks Chat Icon
