Choosing a Pedetrician
How do you choose a Pediatrician? I am clueless on this! And after you pick one, do you let them know ok I will be going to you? Do they come see the baby in the hospital? When should I look into this, I am 23 weeks.
And anyone have any recc. for the Long Beach, Oceanside area?
Sorry for all these questions, but I really don't know!!

Re: Choosing a Pedetrician
How do you choose a Pediatrician? Get one on your insurance, that has the same views on medicine as you. I prefer one with kids. Walk-in hours in the am, not closed for holidays.
And after you pick one, do you let them know ok I will be going to you? Yes you can tell them that.
Do they come see the baby in the hospital? The baby is examined first by the pediatrician on staff. Your pediatricians office will visit probably about day 1 or 2 depending on what time you deliver
When should I look into this, I am 23 weeks. As soon as you get to it. I went early (34 weeks) so I had my recommendation from my ob/gyn during labor. I switched pediatricians a few times since then - I love my new one.
And anyone have any recc. for the Long Beach, Oceanside area? Friend/board lurker (Hi Rebecca!) recommends: dr. jetter and martocci of baldwin harbour pediatrics

Also the whole point of the board IMO is to help each other out - ask away!

Re: Choosing a Pedetrician
Hey girlie...
I am a Long beach girl too and I use East Rockaway Pediatrics...most specifically Dr. Dellarusso. I ADORE him. He is sweet and I never wait more than 5 minutes in the waiting room when I have a well appointment. Also, the few times she was sick, I called at 9 am and was taken with 2 hours...she was on medication and on her way to getting better within 3 hours!
I like his thinking too. They have a handout with specific food introductions that have worked for us(I NEED direction) and she will be on whole milk at 10 months!!! I also like the way they see her once a month in the first year and space out her shots...
If you need any more info, feel free to FM me. I got this rec from a friend who's hubby is a doc...
Oh, and to answer your question, we interviewed them and then you tell the OB to contact them once the baby is born...they do come see the baby in the hospital within 24 hours of delivery, but Bella spent a day in the NICU at LIJ and they were unable to, but we were discharged on Sat night and were at the doc on Monday morning. I believe we did the interview when I was about 30 weeks-ish.
Hope you are feeling well! And never hesitate to ask a million questions!
Kelly

I agree!
I started doing "pediatrican interviews" around 30 weeks and interviewed 3 practices. I had a very specific list of questions that I asked each one. Based on the responses and the general feel of the office, I made my decision.
Good luck!
