We got DS's cake at Stop-N-Shop and it was $40 I think. And SO YUMMY! Not too much sugar in the icing and they did a great job decorating it.

I think it would depend on the cake for me. If it's a plain cake w/ simple decorations (like Costco has) I would'nt spend $82, especially if I could get the cake for less at Costco or BJ's.

I don't know how many people the cake serves, but for a big party I don't think $82 is too extreme, especially from a bakery.

Re: christening cake $ question

The cake thing is crazy! Although some of the recent pics I've seen of cakes her are gorgeous. If you are looking for a sheet cake with nothing super intricate, the BJs cakes are $25 or 30. I had a 1/2 sheet for my DS's bday yesterday and everyone was raving over it.

Re: christening cake $ question

Ours was delicious and from a great bakery - I think it ran about $70, but we got a discount through the restaurant.

If I had to do it over, I wouldn't spend that much. We ended up taking like 1/2 of it home. We had the party at a restaurant and I think by the time everyone finished eating and had a few drinks, not many people really wanted cake.

Re: christening cake $ question

I've done both routes for each kid. Costco/BJ's cakes are good and you can't beat the price. But it you want something different then the bakery cakes are the way to go. For Alexander's christening we did the bakery cake (dortonis) and I think I spent about $90 but I also had 115 people so I had to get a bigger cake. For his birthday next week I'm getting the cake at BJ's. I don't think taste wise the bakery cakes are worth the extra money. But they do always look much nicer.
