i think payable to the parents and in the memo section, write for "baby's christening" ...something like that...

or maybe buy a savings bond or something?

I am going to one tomorrow too. I think it can be made out to the baby. I know our friends purposely went a few weeks ago and opened an account for the baby, so that checks can be deposited. Either way though, they can deposit a check with the baby's name into their account.

I have always made the check out to the parents. Just in case they don't have a bank account yet for the kid(s). And/or planning to take the money and investing it into account in the child's name - what I did for our twins.

WE have has several people make out the checks to our son, and he doesn't have a bank account yet. But we were able to deposit in into our account and invest it accordingly. So I guess it really doesn't matter.

I have always made them out to the child. It actually never crossed my mind to write it to the parents.

You can also make the check payable to cash.
