Christening party held at home (long)
Did you have a the Christening party at your house? If so, how many people and about how much did it cost? We're having twins and I will be a SAHM. My DH is saying to just take our immediate family to a restaraunt and that's it - no favors, no centerpieces, etc. Just like going out to eat after the Church. I don't agree with this because he only has his immediate family, no extended, where as I have a decent size extended family. So I feel jipped. Plus this is it. He doesn't want a 1 year b-day for them either (same reason - no fuss and we'll be watching funds). I didn't fight with that, but I want a Christening. Since the babies will be born in March, we could have it over the summer in our backyard. I would love to know how much it would cost. Oh, and my Uncle would cater the food since he owns a pizza place and the food is great (he's been used before for other family parties).

Re: Christening party held at home (long)
We did it at home, and catered from Zorn's. Honestly, the biggest cost will be the food. If you uncle is going to do that for you, it shouldn't be too bad. We had about 30 people and it was fine - although I think that if you are going to have more than that you might need to rent tables and chairs (and maybe a tent).
I think for everything - food, drinks, her outfit, the cake and dessert, etc. it was around $750.

Re: Christening party held at home (long)
We just had 20 people in our house for DS baptism. Food was from colisseum deli and was about $200. I got party goods at party city for about $40. It went well and people were able to be outside. It was low key and easy having the baby in his own house.

Re: Christening party held at home (long)
We had it at our house - in our yard We had about 60 people We rented a tent (we ended up buying one - cause we had DD b-day party in our yard too) Honestly, I am not 100% sure how much it cost - cause we made the food ourselves - but honestly I would get it catered - and you seem to have that handled We made chocolate lollipops for favors and my SIL made the centerpieces (she painted flowers on vases and we put candles in them) The cake we spent some money on - but you can always make on or somone make one (I made my own for my DD 1st b-day)
I am trying to think what else we did
Feel free to ask me any questions

Re: Christening party held at home (long)
I never made a Christening party. But my sister and I just had a shower at her house - it was for 40 people and cost about $900. It was $300 to rent tables & chairs, $150 for the favors, $450 for food & beverages. We prepared most of the food ourselves. Some one else brought the cake.

Re: Christening party held at home (long)
We held DD's Christening at DH's firehouse (so the room was for free) We had a decent amount of people though 64 adults and 19 children. I kept a spreadsheet on the entire thing to track the costs and we spent $1200 That included food, liquor (beer, wine, hard liquor), drinks, decorations, DD's dress, paper goods, favors (which I made) balloons etc.
ETA: The food was almost $600 so you would probably save in that area since you have someone to do the catering for you.

Re: Christening party held at home (long)
We did a party in my dad's backyard and had about 65 people. my dad had enough chairs & tables that he borrowed from various neighbors. The food was $1000 We served wine & beer & soda We had a clown and did favors just for the kids. I maybe had a dozen balloons.. not a lot and no centerpieces or gen'l favors for everyone else (i figured good food was more important than mediocre food).

We had the christening at home, we had 120 people, but we ave a very large back yard. We rented a large tent, tables & chairs. My amazing SIL(who was also the godmother) cooked all the food.

Re: Christening party held at home (long)
We had ours last month at home. We only invited our family, though that is over 40 people including the kids. We had a homemade BBQ. The day for us was more about the baptism at the church than the party, so it was understood that this was not going to be a big fancy party.
