Christina Aguilera, Jordan Bratman hold bris for baby Max

More than a dozen family members and friends attended a bris yesterday at the Beverly Hills home of Christina Aguilera, Jordan Bratman and their new baby, 9-day-old Max Liron. The songstress is "already singing" to Max -- whose middle name means 'my song' in Hebrew -- unnamed sources tell E! The bris -- a Hebrew religious ceremony which formalizes the name chosen for an infant boy, who is then circumcised -- is typically held on the 8th day of life.

I wonder how her family feels about the baby being raised Jewish.

No flaming please, just an honest thought.

If they did not convert the child, the child is not being raised as a Jew. A child born to a woman who is not Jewish must be converted and taken to a mikveh bath. The bris may just be ceremonial at best.

Wow, I didn't know that!

Just something I thought of--being married to a Hispanic man (and Christina being Hispanic), I know that lots of times, they are fiercely Catholic.

Thank you for informing me, I learned something new today! Chat Icon

Her hispanic/Catholic Heritage is only from her father's side who left them when she was a very litle girl.

Somehow, I don't think her mother would mind the bris.

Whether Christina converted or not, I don't know. But I think it's great that they are following Jordan's religious traditions.

I remember reading (on LIF of course) that after Christina and Jordan got married she got a tattoo on her lower back in hebrew that read "ani lidodi vdodi li". Translated to english it means "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine". I think that is beautiful.

I don't think her mom would mind. He mom seems very nice and accepting from what I have seen of interviews.

Kind of ironic she got a tattoo in hebrew when traditional jews are not allowed to be tattood (can't get burried in a jewish cemetary, etc). I don't know if her husband is traditional or not. It's a nice saying though...very nice actually.
