Some hallmark stores (definately the one in Walt Whitman) carry these items.

Check the Hallmark webiste.

A few years ago I got a great key from Tender Heart

Santa's Magic Key

Start a new holiday tradition your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews will always remember. As a gift or accent in your own home, Santa's Magic Key is sure to warm hearts this holiday season. Each key includes a special poem.

Santa's Magic Key.
Twas the night before Christmas
I'm excited as can be
This year mommy told me
About a very special key
You can shimmy down the chimney
Or you can tiptoe through the door
Use the magic in this special key
To find cookies, milk and more!

Santa's Key

As for plates...I found a beautiful Christmas plate on clearance at Macy's a while back...was part of set but I only found the one...I use that.

But I recently saw this set ($10) at Pier 1:

I got our Santa key from Exposures catalog It has our name engraved on it.

For a plate, we have a standing Santa that holds a plate that we got as a gift, so I just use that. We might also have a "Cookies for Santa" plate now that I think about it. Everything is up in the attic so I'm not 100% sure.

Do you keep the key outside, or do you just hope that DC won't ask how Santa gets in to get the key in the first place?

I know that DS would ask something like that.... it's hard to slip things past him... Chat Icon

No you just put the key outside in like the mailbox, then at night when your DC is sleeping and you bring out the presents, you eat the cookies, drink the milk, and you also bring the key back in.

How did your parents do it when you were a child?

We hang it on the outside of the back door on the doorknob. They haven't realized yet that the storm door is locked. Chat Icon

ETA: we leave it out and let them bring it in Christmas morning. Santa has to lock up again, right?

I LOVE this idea. Now all I have to do is decide what key I like better. Chat Icon

OK, that makes sense. Growing up, my mom had some lame excuse that we saw through pretty quick. I think we called her on it, but she had a fairly detailed back-story that I think held us for a few more years.

Most non-deadbolt locks can lock from inside when the door is open, then stay locked when you close the door after you leave.... (which is why you have to be very careful about having your house key on you when you do that..... Chat Icon )
