My DS is 6 and my nephew is 8 and they are both getting the Eyeclops night vision goggles. DS is also getting the Eyeclops Bionicam, Air Hogs Zero Gravity car and a table top foosball/air hockey table. He got a pogo stick for his bday last month that he loves and a microscope - you can get prepared slides too. A Gigaball? I know it's getting cold for it but it's a huge hit whenever anyone comes over.
Are they into sports or specific teams? I got my other nephew a framed pic of the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room with the jerseys hanging up (they have all teams) and you can have the childs last name put on a jersey next to 3 of the best known players.

My 7 year old nephew loves Legos. We just got him the Indiana Jones Lego sets. They also have Star Wars.
