Me and DH were talking earlier. We are getting our tree tonight and DH said "it has to "settle" before we decorate it"...WTH does that mean? I have no idea what he is talking about.....

Re: Christmas tree question

The tree won't be in a normal shape b/c of the netting they pack it in...

It needs to "fall"

I read the other day that you should trim the trunk and put it in a bucket of water in a garage or shed for a day so it can acclimate to somethin' or other......Chat Icon

Yup, usually, we put it in the garage, in a bucket of water, after trimming the trunk. It not only is supposed to settle the branches but like you said acclimate it to the change of weather.

I have to say the trees to look better when you do this. The netting really does make the trees have an upward look to them.

Re: Christmas tree question

We always let our tree "settle" before decorating it. We try to get it in the stand as soon as it comes home and I cut the netting off. We let is settle for 2 whole days before decorating it. Its amazing how much it comes down. The tree is frozen when outside and the branches are petrified in that position so the heat of the house makes it come down and be full the way its supposed to be. You will notice too as the tree dies, it will fall even more and all the ornaments will fall into different spots on the tree from where you put them.
