CIO but living in tight quarters

So, I'd like to start trying CIO (its tough now since DS is teething horribly) but we live in a condo and have neighbors next store. We don't hear them so I don't think they hear DS.

Those that lived in similar situations, did you do CIO? Its one thing if DH and I have to live through it, but not our nieghbors.

Thanks!

Re: CIO but living in tight quarters

I did CIO, and I live in an apartment in Brooklyn... we checked in with our neighbors to see if we were disturbing them, and lucky for us (and them!) they couldn't hear anything.

It took about a week for us until he was sleeping through the night, so keep in mind that any distruption will hopefully only be short lived. A heads up, along with a basket of coffee and treats might be enough to keep the neighbors happy in the meantime.

Good Luck!

That is EXTREMELY considerate of you!

If you have a good relationship with them I would give the a heads up to your start date and let them know most people have no more crying by night 3 or 4. Chat Icon

If you don't have a good relationship with them, then just do it Chat Icon

Kerry we live in the same situation. We tried CIO (didn't work), but the neighbors we like swear they never ever hear DD cry.

Re: CIO but living in tight quarters

We live in a co-op and have only one neighbor on one side. We checked with her to see if we were disturbing. Luckily, her grandson's room is next to DS's and he isn't home til 1am. (He's 20) They say they never hear him. We were concerned when he was a newborn. Typically, if you didn't disturb during the newborn stage, then CIO won't be anything like that.

Re: CIO but living in tight quarters

if your baby is teething CIO is not a good idea right now. You should wait until he is done before beginning.
I would just ask the neighbors if they hear the baby crying and it is disturbing them.
